In the next few days I will be taking a 20 hour flight - and I am looking for a portable CD/MP3 player that can play real bass.

So far I have picked up the Nomad Jukebox 3, which despite its good reviews, leaves me yearning for more bass. Not that *thump* *thump* *thump* of techno - but to hear the bass line of a bass guitar front and center.

My headphones consist of Beyerdynamic 250-80's.

You can try iriver slim-x2.
By far I think the most advanced cd/mp3 player with easy navigation and very slim too.
The panasonic and sony cd/mp3 player isn't just my cup of tea.. they have complicated navigation and the sound quality is about the same. Furthermore, they have some issues when playing mp3s, like the djc01 can't fast forward when playing mp3s.

Yeah, I too have had my eye on that iRiver now. They've got'em @ BestBuy for $140+. No larger than a CD itself, and has one kick-ass backlit remote(wired) to it.

Actually, as of now, it says $149 w/ $20 mail-in rebate

And, below that, it says "New or Used = $119", (Which I'm guessing in an auction block price?)

But, I DO like the fact that they have free shipping on the product.

The real Amazon.com price is $129.94 (for the iRiver SlimX iMP-350). It doesn't display you the price until you put it in the shopping cart.

There are a few Marketplace sellers selling the item at fixed prices between $119.94 and $129.94. You could e-mail them to inquire more about the condition of the units.

Yeah, but I would be a little skeptical though, as to the TRUE condition of the item, unless they take detailed pics of the item for sale.
