Ok, I mainly use my Sony MZ-N1 to listen to my music. Most of the discs are recorded using SP with Atrac Type R encoding, some double CDs such as live performances are recorded in LP2 via Simple Burner (real time lp2 vs simple burner yielded no differences).

Ok, as for ear gear I have the Sony EX70S. I think they sound good, better than stock earbuds but I feel something is missing.

I sometimes use my Sony D-EJ711 PCDP which doesn't sound bad but doesn't sound too good either.

I am more tha happy with my N1, but now I am wondering. Getting some kind of portable amp will improve my listening experience ? I mainly listen to music while working on the PC.

What are the advantages of having a device such as portable amp ?

What are the differences between the Penguin, Meta and Altoids configurations ?

Who will build one besides JMT (I PMed him and am yet to receive a reply).

I want to get the best out of my N1... as this is my main portable and most cherished portable device.

Where can I see some more Penguin, Altoids, META pics ? what do you guys use ? How do I use this devices ?

Sorry for all the questions, I am trying to learn

Joe, I don't think spending much money on an amp would help with the Sony EX70S. If you were looking to get into some better HPs, then an amp may be in order. The supermini gets great reviews around here though.
