Can owners please share some of your Porta Corda2 experiences with me. I'm about to purchase this but am worried it might not be worth it or have better alternatives. Since this is for my gf I do need it to be small (and I do wish it's good looking otherwise she won't carry it). Sound is obviously important to me. Would I be better off with a portable Meta or something from JMT?

looks like a professional product. sounds great. bigger than the fixup mini but it also uses a 9v and has crossfeed, if you like that. personally i think its strength is the layout with the input and output port and the top of the unit, and a belt clip. comes with a pretty decent mini-mini interconnect and a 120 ohm impeder. i would say if you can afford it go for the PC2, else the mini is a decent alternative (especially the newer v.3)

oh, plus the PC2 can be biased to class A and run off of AC power with a radio shack wall wort. probably the best your gonna get in this form factor. if you deal with something 2-3x bigger then go for a portable "META42"

Or get someone to build you a META42 in a Serpac H-65 case... IF the crossfeed is unimportant, I do think tangent made the top flight which had a crossfeed inside of it but an external battery pack, correct me if I'm wrong.

I love my Porta Cord 2 as well. Very well built, good sounding. I have it plugged into my Atoll CDP.

I use it mosty plugged into a 12V wallmart, with the consumption switched for A biais. I should get a stronger wallmart actually.

The only uncertainty I have is that I might should have picked the ha-1 instead. Now, I'm even considering the ha-2! This never stops!

Anyway, I don't think you can go wrong the the Porta Corda.

Cheers,
Pierre

Thanks for the help guys but another question. Should I buy the Porta Corda2 and mate it with the V6 that my gf has or should I use the money to buy a better pair of phones? But then that would mean no amp for the MD and discman she uses.

And Pierre isn't the porta corda meant to be portable? :p You'll have to lug the HA-1

Howie,

I actually use my PC II as a home amp.

I picked it because of the reviewed quality/price ratio and for its versatility. I was not willing to go for a more expensive amp as my source was a decent but not outstanding Philips DVD player.

I upgraded my source a bit later for a $700 CDP. This upgrade raised quite a bit my expectations (and therefore reduced my usage of portable music) and it also made me think of getting a fair match to the player (HA-1, HA-2, RKV ??).

Still, the versatility and robustness of the PC II is great. If I upgrade, I can always plug it back to the DVD player to watch movies at night ...

I want to listen to the other amps before upgrading ...

Cheers,
P.

Also note the new and improved V4 SuperMini is coming out next week.
