I've got my eyes out for a portable amp for listening to prog rock, punk, electronic, some electro-folk thru Grado 125's (E3c's for active portable) & an eye towards an eventual MS1 shift...though I really like my Grados with bowls and with mod 414 pads.
Any suggestions?...thanks.

I've checked out spec's and a few reviews for Super Mini Moy and for a MINT (in Hammond case)...I'm enamored of the Emmeline Raptor look, tubes and the sweet sound but I think I need more portable than this offers.

Budget?

For a cheap portable amp the Aperhead 47 can be built by a builder to your external desires or ordered from Twinstarr (the Twinstarr Black) - this design gives the Graos/Alessandros the curren they need.

If you like the Emmeline look, maybe think about moving up in price and getting a hornet?

Ayep, right now I'm borrowing Joelongwood's CHA47 (he never sells anything, which is why I was fortunate to hook up with one of JMT's early CHA47s! Thanks again!) and I think you'd like the budget amp match with Grados. Dry, forward mids, crisp highs, big bottom with a nice sharp attack, it's a very commercially pleasing signature akin to the John Grado sound, which is why my KSC-35s love this when I'm walking around outside and need to cut through the ambient noise. If the bass gets too big, and the highs too sharp, I use the 75 ohm adapter and the Koss is reined right in. In fact, I use the 75 ohm adapter all the time, since that's my personal preference - it feels like it tones down the midbass so I can hear the more subterranean bass through the KSC-35, no small feat for an amp to accomplish. I only heard bass this deep through the DT770 before, so this is a testament to the amp. (of course the DT770 keeps going even further after that level, but what i meant was the bass i heard went to an area only the DT770 could attain.)

The gain might be set a bit high tho, since the amp gets a bit hissy when pushed past noon (i only go that high when actually listening when I use the 75 ohm adapter) which might account for the dry mids. But overall this is an amp that gives a definite improvement over just the headphone out of an ipod (it adds the right amount of bass!) since I thread this amp through the line out of an ipod via a sik din.
