Hey everyone,

I'm a fan of good, quality pop music, but after falling in love with Bjork, I'm starting to enjoy that IDM sound as well. I've given a few purely IDM groups a shot, but that sound alone just doesn't do it for me.

Can anyone recommend any good "pop-tronica" albums that are worth listening to? So far, I've only listened to Bjork (mostly Post and Homogenic) and Notwist (Neon Golden). I've heard that Mum is quite good, but I know that there must be other great pop musicians out there who have chosen to work with IDM instead of intstruments.

In another subject altogether, I listened to Amon Tobin last night (Supermodified), and I could hardly believe my ears. It was absolutely amazing!

All suggestions are helpful, but I would like to listen to albums that have good vocals and perhaps a few actual instruments as well.

Thanks!

Well, this is categorized as synthpop (similar/same as pop-tronica? haven't heard of that term before): T.O.Y. White Lights. Very good vocals, no real instruments (all synthesizers) though.

penvzila,

Don't be an elitist...I figured "in another subject altogether" was a straightforward enough way of saying that my experience listening to Amon Tobin was in a separate category from my inquiry on "pop-tronica." I guess that was presumptuous of me.

I'll be more careful next time.

People slug it out in the music forum just as badly as they do in the headphone forum it seems. And all of us here are guilty of not reading the entire post before responding to it. Don't take it personally, GuineaMcPig

You listed some of my favourites, but I can't think of any others, so just thought I would give this thread a "bumpies". I would like to see more responses.

BTW, if I was asked, I would say this is different from synth-pop. This is more pop-meets-electronica.

If I can think of anything else, I'll post.

Don't know if this qualifies, but Halou's Wiser is sort of something else than synth-pop that might be thought of as pop-tronica, but it's more dense than the usually minimlist glitch-based stuff that you mentioned.

EDIT: PS Coincidentally, I just put on a new album by Matt Elliott (formerly Third Eye Foundation), and it definitely qualifies, and is quite good, albeit mostly slow.
