He need not be greedy, he's got both!

It has been confirmed, this amplifier will be paired with a wooded HE-60 and a custom Stax cable...!

Justin is current building a DX for me

He is building the regular model as well.

Whoever voted the McAlister EA-6 - do you actually own or have heard one?

I have, and, did NOT vote for it.

Not sure what to replace the 24s with. 47s, maybe, they're fairly plentiful and actually sound quite lovely when pentode strapped. 50s are in current production, but they're expensive, so maybe use a 10 or a Russian 300B instead.

A VT-25 would be good but securing a matched quad might be a problem.

Click here for pictures of it. This is just nuts but it is still much cheaper then most of the high end crap.

I think you already know the answer to that.

Then I do also need a 4070, 404, Nova Signature...

What I learned with all of these phones is that the Stax sounds suits me best so I'm putting more energy(money) in that direction.

No, but feel free to use the He90 smiley

Just design it so that tightly matched tubes aren't necessary. Self biasing, etc. We could even cheat and make it a SE amplifier with a centre tapped output transformer, which would half the tube compliment.

Who needs generic viagra when you have images like those. The silver wirewounds make me feel like taking a cold shower.

I'm personally using a 006t, which is obvious less than ideal, but I'm not too fussed because they sound out of my HE60 is very good already. The HE60 is slightly dry in the mids and the bass so a pure solid state amplifier won't really do it much good. I listened to the HE60 on a 717 and thought that it was just a tad on the aggressive side. On my 006t, the sound is mellower and doesn't quite have the same edge. Hence, I have reason to believe that the 007t, BH or some tube hybrid will be a great match for the HE60.

Good point.

As if I would feel sorry for anyone using the HE60 or O2 with any amp, even an "inadequate" one.

Hypothetical scenario:

If you had an O2 but have no amp, and you are being held at gunpoint to choose a commercially available electrostat amp, which one would you choose? Think of it like a Saw type of question, but instead of ethical dilemmas, you get to choose between amplifiers.

Out of everything available now with no price limit? No questions asked Single Power ES1.

Self biasing is the norm with these amps so why break a good mold. A CT output trafo is a good idea but it isn't cheap but it should cost the same as a balanced OTL amp.

Anybody still want to buy a Lamm amp with generic Hammond trafos for 110k$? This is a case study how amp designers with OCD cope. These things are much more then just amps, they are works of art. I want a Kondo amp for my O2's...

Easy, I'd just snag I transformer box and buy the amp I want.

It's a lot easier to make a good 1:1 ratio transformer than a good 1:25/18:1 ratio transformer, and that's all we need for the application. We just have to make sure it can handle all those volts. If we were planning on making it for a collective DIY project I can imagine a company like Lundahl offering group buy discounts.

I wonder if Kondo-san would actually make a electrostat amp if you asked him? If you pull the final OPT and add some resistors for protection you're 95% of the way there.
