What is The Greatest Rock Band Of All Time?
Here is my list. I hope it contains All the Greatests
and the King, of course!

Let me emphasize:

.... Of All time....

Sure there are many very good bands out there, but The Greatest is: ????

I don't think that anyone outside the list would make to the top!?

Sincerely,

Adam

The Velvet Underground.

The Beatles. Founders of modern music. Their roots are felt in every other band listed.

100th, he he.

I don't think that the Beatles and the King in particular are the same kind of rock as say Metallica and Deep Purple: the former are all about the vocals really and the instrumental arrangements are secondary, while the latter depend heavily on both vocals and instruments. Yes, every poll is subjective though...

Some would even say that the King is not really a rock band. And what about ABBA?

Give me a break how can You compare this group to the Mega Groups:

The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Who, ...

Many on my Top 19 are just fillers and those outside the list might be fillers or even less?!

Because everybody has different taste, and just because a band is incredibly hyped by the mainstream "classic rock" stations doesn't mean they are the best ever?

That said I would have to pick The Who anyway, Live at The Isle of Wight 1970 just seals it...

If Led Zeppelin doesn't walk away with this ballot, then I will have to follow up with a serious rant. Pink Floyd put out the most popular album of all time, but Zeppelin scores as the #1 band of all time. And yes, that includes the bands that haven't even been born yet.

I better start working on my lecture now.

Yeah, you're right. Every list is subjective, but the Mega Groups will top the poll.
I was thinking about Abba, but I decided to put 'None of the Above'.
I considered also popularity of a band, e.g. Fleetwood Mac sold more than 100 million LPs.
Jethro Tull was selling phenomenally!
The Eagles sold 27 million of their Greatest Hits back then and still touring ...

Thre's no definition and therefore this is very subjective.
With all this ambiguity, we all agree that one of those most famous
from the 1960s or 1970s will win ANY Poll and not just this poll!

Speaking about The Who, how about 'Live at Leeds'?
Arguably, the best live album ever?

That was certainly a list of the golden oldies...bleh

Zeppelin did a great job of ripping off muddy waters, wow. They certainly should be #1. Except that now we've all heard muddy too...

The beatles weren't even the best band in hamburg in 1965, let alone in the world ever.

The stones and the who might be in the running, but really, best is personal.

I think that they sold over 100 million albums.

Again, one should have a list of Top 100 to perhaps satisfy almost everyone.
Then we would need to strech this to Top 200, and so forth.
