who makes the BEST sounding portable CD players out of all the cheaper ones, im talking about like the ones wal-mart would carry. i went in and looked around and they have quite a selection, aiwa, sony, panasonic, lennox, Gpx, phillips,, etc..so, im not talking about the way expensive line ups, just ones like this, yes, they have different price ranges on even the same brands stuff, but usually, one brand will usually have better sound than another, even if the price is a little different, so in other words, if i walked into wal mart with $50.00, and saw all of these brand names i stated above, all inthe same price range, wich brand would tend to have a better sound? I have heard that sony and panasonic usually have the best sound, but dont really know..?
thanks

well, i only will be using it in my car with the cassette adapter, so i would rather have one with a line out, BUT, i have not seen ANY in the 60.00 price range that have a separate line out, so i guess im looking for the best 60.00 one with headphone.
right now, i have a phillips with headpone jack only, like i said i use it with the cassette adapter in my car, sound sucks, hard to hear the highs, like cymbals and stuff, i cant stand that, and according to my poll, so far, phillips looks to be the worst! im surprised at that, i always thought they made good stuff..? I also have an el-cheapo GPX, it has a separate line out and it sounds much better through my cassette adapter than the phillips, and GPX seems to be the only cheaper ones that still have a separate line out, so i guess im looking for the cheaper ones with the best headphone out since i cant find any cheap ones with separate line out.

It is possible to get a player for <60 that has headphone out. I have a Memorex MPD8506 PCDP/MP3 player with a headphone out. It was on sale at radioshack for $40. The headphone jack has the customary hiss that plagues most portables. However the line out sounds very clean, I can hook the line out up to my reciever now, but I can't wait for finals to end so I can make a CMoy to put this line out to use. The only qualms that I have with this player are the long load time for MP3 disks, the shabby build quality (simmilar to most PCDP) and the short battery life. I figured that if they made a portable that sounded this bad out of the headphone jack it wouldn't go through an 8 pack of energizers in a month.

right now

I like my Sony d-25 best when stationary, BUT if you are moble and you are going the car kit route, go for the panasonics if you don't find something with a line-out. I've used a couple sonys (with line outs) and a panasonic 28x series (no line out) with the cassette adaptor and I found (to me) there is minimal difference when parked and practically none when moving. The reason I'd go with the panasonic for this application is that I like the push button release on the spindle hub that holds the disk. The panasonics also address summer temps, which is a factor in AR (not that my sonys showed any problems from high temps.)

Good luck and just for the record: what do you drive and where do you drive it?
