On terms of sound, which type of music player is best, MP3/CD, MD, or HD mp3 player?

i use a sony d777 pcdp with a sr71 amp for portable, along with md, dap, and atrac3+ players. the uncompressed cd wins hands down.

Both, but I'd gear the noticeably bigger improvement to be the internal amplifier or line out.

Whats the best CD player out right now? Is the iriver IMP-550 any good?

I choose PCDP because DAPs haven't reached their renaissance of high sound quality yet. Getting there, only a matter of time. DAPs are the future, but I still prefer the sound of the older PCDPs. These generalizations are always loaded with caveats though. There will always be exceptions.
