If it doesn't sound as good as a cmoy, then it's probably not worth it. (Hell, I've seen cmoys + mints go for $30-something bucks)

Get headsave's go vibe, it's small, well built, has a battery compartment and uses 9v instead of the 2 aa's on the pocket amp.
I may have tin ears, tinnitus or a brain tumor but I really don't hear that much of a difference in op amp base headphone amps.

i owned gary's pocket amp 1: unfortunately some el-cheapo parts (cracking in-/output jacks) made it unpossible to use it as portable amp: there was cracking with every little movement. i gave it away for free as soon as my go vibe arrived which is superior in every respect.

if size matters, take a look at xin's amps.

The V2 is better made, though I have never used it as a portable so I could not confirm that the intermittent signal problem has been fixed. I also have the V1 and yes the in/out jacks on it are a bit flaky.

Guys, did you try the amp with NIMH (rechargable AA) batteries? Whenever I used regular Alkaline AAs with the amp there would be terrible low-volume distortion. As soon as I tried NIMH rechargable AAs, it disappeared. I don't think its the jacks.

i used alkalines, cheaper nicd and finally 2200mah nimh rechargeables with it: no difference. the main problem was cracking and noise when touching the in- or out-going cables or moving the amp slightly. it is related to the jacks. maybe gary used different jacks in your amp, null?

I always used Nimh, I also found that slight movements of the plugs caused intermittent crackle on the V1, no problem if left alone but I would guess that movement would be a problem.

The plugs on the V2 do seem more secure. It should be noted however that even the V1 went through at least 2 revisions so components may vary a lot between individual amps of the same series, I have an earlier V1 amp so probably the same as BrokenEnglish.
