my last thread didnt get me anywhere....everyone suddenly stopped replying
Ok here's where i stand
if u haven read my previous thread

I'm from INDIA so my choice is limited to the following brands
Sony,Philips,Sennheiser and beyerdynamic(doubtful)
I cant buy online(dont ask why it's a long story discussed in my previous thread)
Senn stuff is quite expensive here so only the low end stuff fits my budget

I listen mostly to rock music (all kinds) a little bit of trance and HipHop
I dont care if it's open or closed plus comfort isnt a issue
all i want is best sound quality for the type of music i listen too

Here's a list of phones that r within my budget and available here
Philips HP800,*HP890*,HP840,HP805
Sony XD200,XD300,*V6*
Sennheiser HD201,HD497
beyerdynamic DT231
*Stuff like sony V6 and philips HP890 r quite difficult to find but i'm sure they r availble ,just havent found n e yet !!!

Bose triports are available too but from wat i've read and also from personal experience they sound like crap ( am i wrong ?? )

Plzz help me out here !

i can understand your dilema. i don't have any experience with these particular phillips headphones, but i'd say no to them first.

sennheiser would be the natural choice but i hear your problem, with them being exspensive. your chosen sennheisers are a good choice but not against the rest of the competition.

the Bose headphones are i'm affraid my all-time favourite headphones. yes i have more expensive headphones, but they're just my favourites. i think they're the best looking headphones in the market and the bass, although not that well defined, is very deep.

the only problem is the headband which has a tendancy to break far too easily. i'm on my 4th pair. whoever you buy them form should exchange them if there's a problem.

for now i'd say go with either of your sony choices. i'm sorry i just can't get enthusiastic about sony headphones but for now they would be your best choice.

i hope that will help you.

I have Philips HP840 and for the price i paid (under 30€) they sound amazing. Details arent superior and so isnt mids and highs, but they do have very VERY nice bass that you can even feel around your ears. Still it isnt boomy nor overcoming. One of most comfortable headphones i have weared too. HP890 should be even better, but i havent auditioned it myself. Philips usually has some very crappy headphones, but few gems are here and there and HP840 is one if you can get it cheap.

I havent heard V6, but everyone says that they are great headphones.

DT231 is good bang for the buck and nice sealed headphone and overall better than HP840. If they cost way more than HP840 though, then dont bother. They arent that amazing.

I'm sorry for going slightly off topic, but after reading your other thread: If you need to claim warrenty on any headphone you buy chances are that you will have to ship them overseas at you're expense.

Unless, and this might be the case, the shop you buy them from his happy to do it for you. It would probably be best to ask them first.

Thx for all the opinions guys

ok i've been doing a hell a lot of searching and haven had any luck finding the the HP890(Philips has horrible customer service) or the V6 and i'm frankly fed up searching (even the beyers r not available now)

i'll guess i'll have to get my first real good pair of phones when i go to Japan next yr (a ATH hopefully)
i just need a decent headphone as soon as possible
so For now after reading a few reviews i've decided to get one of these 3 (these r the only one's easily available and cheap too)
1) Sony XD200 - 30 $
2) Sennheiser HD201 - 31 $
3) Sennheiser HD497 - 70 $
since HD497 is twice the price of the other two is it worth the price diff,
i just love the grados ,they r perfect for me( i'm talking bout the SR60 )
so which of these 3 is more Grado like....thx

I just re-read your previous thread and you say that you're not willing to buy online because of a bad experience you had with a graphics card.

Look, there's a world of difference between most electronics resellers and a company like HeadRoom or Todd the Vinyl Junkie. As far as I know, there's no reason you can't buy from them. And the point of a discussion board like this is to help people find dealers they can trust and get other advice from those who know.

Frankly, the options you have there are not that good and they're massively overpriced as well. I know you had a bad time with the Radeon, but trust me, the dealers you find here are reliable and trustworthy.

Edit:

I just went over to the HeadRoom website and pulled this text off it:

f you would like to place an international order, there are two things you can do. You can Call us (1-406-587-9466 outside the U.S.) or email Customer Service to place an international order so it can be processed in a timely manner. If you would like to place an order on-line please follow these instructions!!

When selecting a state in your profile, please choose 'XX'. You can then type in your address and zip code (if applicable)in the regular address fields, and use the 'comments' section at the bottom to finish up any details about shipping information. Also, be sure to write out the full name of your country.

Your shipping charge won't be calculated. You need to call us or email us at the address above to receive your estimated shipping charge!!

Typical international shipping costs run about $20-$50, but can be more or less depending on your country. Call us for correct rates!! We ship all over the world on a daily basis. Shipping rates will vary depending on where you would like your products shipped to as well as how long it will take to get there.

Please note: You are still responsible for shipping charges even if you have decided not to keep your package. We do not refund shipping charges!

We ship internationally only via Fed-Ex, because they have a good tracking system as well as being highly reliable.

Please understand that you as the customer are responsible for any and all taxes and duties that may be accrued on your product. We are not responsible for determining the amount of these fees and they are in no way a part of our shipping costs. For more information, please consult your governments' customs office.

Also, here is what I found at Todd the Vinyl Junkie's site:

Shipping Outside the United States
DELIVERY METHOD:
All international orders (shipping to anywhere outside the United States) ship by the US Postal Service. We offer two options for delivery methods, either USPS Airborne Parcel or USPS Global Express. With USPS Airborne Parcels, orders are usually delivered within 2 weeks, whereas USPS Global Express orders are usually delivered within 1 week. Delivery times are not guaranteed.

SHIPPING COSTS AND WEIGHTS:
Our website shopping cart calculates your shipping cost when you go to checkout. All available options will be presented. Costs are based on the total weight of your order and your destination. Shipping costs already include the basic shipping rate plus all fuel surcharges, delivery charges, insurance charges and handling charges. We use dimensional weight because our carriers, such as FedEx, use it to calculate the shipping costs. Dimensional weight is based on the following formula: (Length x Width x Height) divided by 194. Dimensional weight is used only for items which are larger in size but lighter in weight. Typically this applies to speakers and other large items. As a result, the weight shown on our website shopping cart for those items is often larger than the actual weight.

SHIPPING TIME:
For international orders over $200.00, we require verbal contact before we can release your order to ship. We will call you at the phone number you provided to us on your order to verify that you placed the order. Almost all international orders leave our warehouse within one or two business days from the time we get your verbal approval by telephone. Delivery times vary depending on the method you select (see delivery methods below).

BACK-ORDERS:
We work hard to keep all items in stock but sometimes items are on back-order. If part of your order is back-ordered and other items from your order are available, we will hold your order until all items are available to ship. If you want us to split your order into two shipments, additional shipping charges will be added to your order. Please contact our customer service department to notify them if you want to split your order.

SHIPMENT TRACKING NUMBERS:
Your shipment tracking number will be emailed to you the day your order ships. All shipment tracking numbers are also available on our website by following these steps:
1. Click the My Account tab at the top of this page.
2. Log into your TTVJ account using your email address and password you created.
3. After logging in, click the 'Order Status' link, which will appear in the right column under 'Services'.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen to view a list of all orders placed with us.
5. If your order has been shipped, click the invoice link, which will appears next to the order.
5. Your tracking number will appear under the notes section of your invoice.

For International orders, the tracking number provides delivery confirmation only. It does not provide estimated delivery dates and does not provide current status or location of the package while in transit.

DAMAGED SHIPMENTS:
All shipments are guaranteed to be delivered in new condition. Shipments are insured so in case your order gets lost or damaged in transit, we will ship you a replacement right away at no added cost.

For return authorization, contact Customer Service.

So give them a call. They *will* help you out to get you what you want. And you never know, we might be able to get Tyll or Todd to appear in this thread- they do keep an eye on Head-Fi.
