I am looking for monitoring headphones that have flat frequency response, detailed accurate sound, good comfort and are trusty, so I don't get any surprises when finalising my mixdowns on studio monitors. I use Sony MDR-7506 now. Want to upgrade.
Here's the list of the headphones I want to choose from:

Beyerdynamic DT 990
Pioneer HDJ-2000
Sennheiser HD 380 PRO
Shure SRH840
Sony MDR7509HD

Please help!
Thank you!

I pity you, I am torn between the HD 380, DT250 and Pioneer Monitor 10.

Don't you know anyone with these headphones who can let you listen to them?

For Monitoring:
AKG K271 or DT48E. My research says they are the best: flat freq.

Captain 73, the Shure SRH840 is what I want, but if there's better option in almost the same price range then I will regret if I will discover that later

I'm too drunk right now, going out. Will check K702 later

Just be sure to grab a phonitor/auditor. The K701 needs power to drive and is very revealing of poor sources. K701smile

The very best that I can recommend you are the K702 and the HD-800 both need some nice amp, or sound card that have a good hps amp on bord.

Unamed will be the GMP 435. The RS-1 can work too but have some coloration in the upper mids.

If you are looking for strictly monitor headphones with a neutral, flat, detailed, & uncolored sound.. Your best bet would be the DT48S/CD900ST/K240DF, or certain vintage Fostex.. For mixing, a headphone with a better bass respond would be more ideal.

If you ever decide to part with one of your dt48's shoot me a PM! Have you heard the k70X? If so, do you feel the ones you mentioned are more neutral/uncolored? I'm asking because I was thinking of upgrading from the 240DF to the 701 if the 701 is better... more accurate/neutral. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the other way around, though.

If you want flat, then just like others here have said, the answer is K240DF. No doubt about it. Flatter than the K701 (I have both, this is a first-hand report).

Available used for $100., more if re-cabled.

This phone has passed a German radio certification for flat FR.

(I have two pair, balanced with good cables [originally meant for Senn 6xx], Zu and Silver Dragon. PM me if you are interested in one).

If these were so important for their profession, why were discontinued ? The DT48S is equally as flat, probably more so since the bass is totally neutral. But, I really don't want to get into a mine is flatter then yours silly argument.
