Ive owned the Panasonic SL-SX500 for 4 years and today on my way home from work it wouldn't play discs. There is power as Ive replaced the batteries and the meter reads full. Sometimes it tries to read the disc but it doesnt spin. After a few seconds it flashes F-15 and after I press play again it begins to spin but wont read any discs. Is there any way to fix this by myself?

I still have the Laser transport of mine, if you think you need it. Just pay for shipping and it's yours. But first, check with a professional and see if it's something easy to repair. Take care.

Thanks for the suggestion. Id rather buy a new one and trash the old one, but if there is an easy fix Id keep it.

Hey there...

Sorry to hear your PCDP failed... I have this Panasonic PCDP (SL-S271C I think) that failed in a similar fashion. Mine was under warranty still so it was fixed for free but the problem wasn't that big a deal.

The spindle motor pretty much just went bad. Just like that too--it was working earlier in the day and later I went to use it and nothing.

If you spin the disc and you hear some scratching noises from the spindle motor that's definitely it. The spindle motor cost for mine was only like $30 CDN or so (IIRC) as it said on the invoice (I didn't have to pay but it was there).

I'm sure any Panasonic tech. could look up/tell you what the error code is. Either that or if you found a service manual it should be in there somewhere. I'm guessing it isn't in the owners manual (or it just says "take it in for service").

Anyhow you might want to check out the spindle motor and see if that's it.

Thanks MD it spins weakly after the F15 error message appears. Ill see if its cheap enought that its worth repairing.
