Hello Head-fi

Im working on a DIY project and would appreciate it if you could help me with some quick measurements.

I would like to put together a table of the HEIGHT of various Grado and Alessandro headphones.

It is important that all headphones are stock! If they have been disassembled (re-cabled or otherwise modified) at any time please note that. To make things easy on everyone, please use the metric system (milimeters) to measure. It is OK to round to the nearest mm if you have tools that measure better, but accuracy to 1mm should be obtainable by anyone and I think good enough for this kind of informal survey.

Please measure from the 2 outermost points shown:

It is often helpful to measure from a few cm in on the ruler, and subtract. the ends of rulers get all chewed up...

If you can confirm someone elses measurement, please just quote them and type "confirmed"

I will quote you for credit & edit your response info into this post so that its easier to find as time passes. I filled in all of the grados models I could think of, with all well known variations so that if there is a change from model to model it may be noted.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Exactly which variation is this? I think you're missing a few variations of the RS-1. See here:

Its hard to keep track of them all. Im hoping a few people will chime in on the RS-1 because it is particularly interesting to me with so many differences from generation to generation.

If there are dimensional differences, I will add to the options there.

Just another thought. Since all Grados are put together by hand, most likely there will be slight differences even among the same model, or is that what you are trying to find out?

SR-225i: 33.5 - 34 mm, +/- 0.5 mm (as per standard error).

The 225i has an extra 'front' section glued in, at least from the pictures I've seen.

Thanks to everyone who has posted so far. The list should fill up nicely at this rate.

Im curious if there is any correlation between the length of the headphone and the generally agreed on sound differences & measured differences model to model.

I suspect there may be some variations from sample to sample, but I think this will get close enough for my highly unscientific methods.

My end goal is to pick a "new" length and have someone make me a set of Grado cups to experiment with the whole length VS the "overall sound" of the headphone. I dont think a database like this has been put together so maybe someone else can use it too. I recall there was the head-fier in Europe who made a set of beautiful aluminum cups for his headphones, perhaps a list like this will help the next guy.

From pictures I saw either the 225 or the 325 had an extra spacer glued in, so I must have been wrong, since the 225 and 80 share the same length.
