Dear HeadFi ers!
I need help to choose, please help me!
I have spent a considerable amount of money on audio equipment over the last 5 years. I came to the point where I have to break the cycle. Here are the last few, if I can remember correctly:
(my source was always a laptop and a smartphone)
Maxell "pro dj" headphones - cheap and fairly fun sounding, you get what you pay for, the cable broke after 4 month, also the paddings turned to dust.
Soundmagic E10 - You all know the first soundmagic you own, it was wonderful and started me on this slippery slope. They gave up after 3 month of careful usage, got a replacement, which had that "membrane noise" when you plug them in, also the sound was weird on one side, decided to stop trying.
Status audio (the beats rip off) - got sucked in by the hype, everyone was praising them to high heavens, they were okay for the 60bucks I paid for them with customs. They broke on me after a few months, I'm not sure, sorry.
JVC FX3X (IEM) - Bass heavy but fun and warm sounding, I used them for traveling, they dissappeared at my workplace, didn't want the thief to see me with another pair, I'm not a sucker (of course I am, I let the person take it)
Philips shl3300 DJ - The most neutral sound signature I have ever heard, paired up with a Fiio A1 mini amp they had a very clear and cold sound, but I liked them, until the cable broke, so after the DIY repair they had to stay at home.
Soundmagic E10S - Because I just wanted to have that magic again, but these are nowhere close no matter what WhatHifi and all the other sell out sites say. With their 46Ohm impedance they are not at all portable. Driven by my Fiio amp they got a somewhat decent sound, but nothing you couldnt get for the third of the price. I sold them to look for something better.
And the last purchase: SMS audio performance pro DJ elite exclusive diamond platinum limited edition signed by 50cent and co-designed by god himself. These were suprisingly the best headphones for my liking, after trying the HD215, the M50x, and several more """"higher tier""""" overrated cans with good players and amps. These sounded just perfect for me, rich bass (due to the airtight seal and almost too strong clamp) and clear mids, very good highs, and a very warm and fun sound overall. The soundstage was wide and the instrument separation was very good too. It handled every genre with professionalism, and the bass were only present where it needed to be. I loved em.
But in Eastern Europe the winters are somewhat colder than in Florida, so the band snapped when I tried to take them off after getting home from the 5 degrees (C) outside. Fun fact that later on after taking it apart I was unable to break the other side with my bear hands (and im not the weak type) because the plastic does a very good job above 20 degrees -_-)
So I just want the same or better, clear and bass rich sound with soundstagr , a rugged build for outside usage, and rather go completely broke now and spend the 150dollars in one piece than spend it on 3-5 cheaper models over the next year.
I tried to narrow them down these, but of course I will take anything into consideration, except the momentum mk1-s and the M50x because I am very very dissapointed in them.
