I'm glad I found this forum!

I've only used cheapy headphones that don't work after a short while. I'm ready to try something better. Here's what I'm looking for:

1. Something $50 or less.

2. Ones that will fit my little head!

3. Ones that sit over (not on) my ears (for comfort).

4. Ones that still work after a month.

5. Ones that don't leak a whole lot of noise.

I'll plug them into my little tv and into my computer for listening to music. Do they plug into walkman type devices also? Would love to work out in the yard and listen to music!

It's ok if they leak some noise. I just don't want hubby to be able to hear them from the other room. He works from home alot, so I have to keep the tv and radio real quiet (and my hearing is not the best so I have to turn it up).

I like classic country, some rock, and even a little thumping music now and then - not like some people whose car rattles from the bass, but I do like the thump of bass with certain songs.

Would you mind recommending something for me? Would you also give me an idea of how long they will work properly with daily but gentle use?

Thank you very much, and if you have any questions about Border Collies (my area of expertise) I'd be happy to help!

Sennheiser PX100's would be first thought. Under $50, good sounding and very durable.

Thanks, but I came up with a better idea!

I didn't realize that headphones could last for years, and I'd love to have a good set of "cans" as you all say. (Where'd that term come from anyway?)

So, I ordered the Senn 201 for twenty bucks. I'll let hubby borrow them so he can hear how good his classical music sounds. Then I'll take them back! This will almost surely cause him to buy a pair of his own, but knowing him, he'll have to outdo me...

Then I'll "lose" my set and keep bugging to borrow his. Then he'll have to let me get another pair (and anything less than his would be an insult)...

I should have myself a good pair of headphones within a month. Boy, am I glad I came here!

The px100 probably leak sound too much. Especially if you like to crank it up a bit.

I suggest you look at what Headroom has got to say about what you're looking for and do a search for and ask questions about the ones you think might suite you best here on the forum.

Hey, I've been doing my homework! I read that headphones provide a superior listening experience compared to speakers, and headphones are much cheaper. The cheaper part will work on hubby. I also read that amps can improve it even more, and hubby is a geek and would like building something like that, so an amp or two will follow the headphones.

See? I've already saved him thousands of dollars in stereo equipment!

Of course I'll need a greater selection of music to sample, you know, to be sure that the sound quality is worth what he paid for it...
