Yeah sound can be rubbish at some venues, and depending on where you stand or sit...  I guess the best sound would be in front of the mixing desk?
I'm talking about in your living room at your house - no amps - their mouth to your ears = no losses :p  Tough experience to beat too...

Anyway, for now I will continue using my ipod classic as a source :)

It depends on the venue. But for, say, a metal concert, it's going to sound rough no matter what is done.

Doesn't sound like something that would appeal to me. Kinda creepy, when you think about it. I'm not into a capella either. Hardly an experience in my book.

I have the same source. Did you Rockbox yours? I still need to learn how to effectively work the graphical EQ.

haha I admit I didn't explain that very well - I have been to a couple of lounge room gigs and they are pretty awesome - about a 30-60 person audience isn't awkward.

I just had to look up rockbox...

I am using an Algorhythm Solo with mine to try and improve the sound.  Pretty much just bought the ipod for it's storage capacity but now the new Astell & Kern players are out I am tempted to go that way.  Man they are expensive though.  I think I'd like the 120.  The amount of improvement from the 120 - 240 is pretty minimal for the extra cost.

The image I had in my mind was Darren Hayes (my favorite singer) whispering in my ear. It doesn't exactly help that he is a married gay man. XD

Rockbox is a custom firmware, but I only recently discovered that it dramatically changes the sound of the iPod. I used to have to use the Electronic EQ setting for music to sound listenable to me. It would distort the sound in a pleasing way. But now, on the default setting with Rockbox, it sounds better than I knew an iPod could! Unfortunately, without altering the EQ, it does sound a little harsh.

My next DAP will be the iBasso DX90. A few people like it about as much as the AK240. At over $2K cheaper, that's impressive.

Yes, that would be weird.

Music alchemist, looks like you never came back to update the thread. How many of these items did you own within these last few years?

As I have said before, this thread is embarrassing to me. I created it when I was in a state of mind of wanting to collect everything. I was much more of a newbie back then. You can view equipment I own, previously owned, and have auditioned on my profile. My wish list has been narrowed down to just a few things that I feel are best suited to me, after gaining a great deal more experience than I had when I first joined. If you're curious about it, you can PM me.
