I am so torn as to what to get because my Lateralus is an HDCD, but i like the toshiba 4960 or sony ce595

Playing an HDCD in an SACD player; will it pick up the HDCD info?

HDCD is an entirely different redbook CD based coding system than SACD. All of the current Denon universal DVD/SACD players offer HDCD decoding.

Well, the newest generation from the 2910 and upwards does. The 1920 does not.
In the previous generation it was the A1, A11, 3800 and possibly the 2800MKII as far as I remember. My own 2200 for instance does not.

a player will only playback the HDCD content of a CD if it has the "HDCD" logo stamped somewhere on the player.

Sorry, my memory is not what it used to be, I thought it did, but perhaps I am thinking of the 3910 I currently own.
