Places in northern NJ to try headphones?

I was thinking about that, but I've heard at Guitar Center you often get hounded for commission. I might still check it out, though.

the folks at the guitar center near Ridgewood on Rt17 are really awesome - shouldnt give you too much hassle

Okay, I'll try out some cans when it's time to upgrade my acoustic.

Seriously, I just walked into a GC today looking for an acoustic myself. The one by me only has crappy phones, the DT 770/80 being their best can. Not a knock against those cans, just it's a steep drop off to the next highest up.
He wasn't pushy at all, in fact I was even asking if he had any input on some entry level monitor speakers, almost inviting him to sell me. He was helpful enough, even did something at the computer, taking my name and number and made a note that I was asking about their higher end Ultrasones (well, 750's).
