Not obvious from the pics.

Yes... Its obvious from the pics and my personal experience with pioneer stuff.
Onkyo looks like a toy, while a pioneer looks like AK240 killer.

Hope it got the optical output to feed the Pioneer XPA-700 (or a Hugo:)

Need Tidal and this can be hooked to my Hugo when I listen to Tidal. X5 or othe DAP can't offer me that.

The article suggests that the design will change in November when it comes out.

Housing made of aluminum with anodized (that of the finish is likely to change in the retail version)

Honestly I don't see the point of a DAP that big...

I have my Fiio and iBasso DAPS (and Hugo) beside me in the bedroom and the garden, occasionally in the lounge. The larger size gives more stability when I turn with IEMs in! Just wanted to point out that not everyone uses DAPs on the move. They are an ideal Transportable source

... It means we don't have the same definition of a DAP. To me it's the modern version of a Walkman which means it has to fit in my pocket. When in my bed I control foobar from my MotoX.

As per 1st post, the Pioneer offers Tidal along with Deezer and Spotify. Don't know about the Onkyo.

I agree. The Pioneer reminds me of an AK240 in a Calyx M size with a ZX2 interface (granted that the Pioneer is 5.1.1).
