You've never heard of the infamous Type-R? Honda's Integra (Japan only, I think...) had a special Type-R model that was faster, however, ricers, in their infinite wisdom, decided by putting the moniker 'Type-R' (along with VTEC, and many others) on their car, it made them go faster. This is why you see otherwise bone stock Civics and Focuses running around with massive airfoils and fart cans, the driver proudly being an arse.

See this page for a rather humorous look at 'You Might be a Ricer if...'

Your car is otherwise known as the Toyota Corolla. I believe it was made in Fremont, California in the New United Motors plant, where they currently build Toyota Corollas and Tacoma pickups. I had a 1987 Corolla DX 4 door, very similar to your car, and believe me, these cars are bullit-proof. I drove mine for 130,000 miles before selling it and there was nothing wrong with it. Exchanged it for a Acura Integra....no, not a Type-R. Still a fun car. Now I drive the ultimate babe magnet....2001 Toyota Camry.

Yes, the Type-R Integra was available for a time in the States. The current Integra, known as the RSX in the States, is mild compared to the Type-R models available in Japan and Europe.

Besides, Type-R or VTEC don't apply to Toyotas. TRD (Toyota Racing Development) is the 3 letters you want on your car.

The name maybe "Chevy Nova", but the engine, transmission, heck, the whole car, is a Toyota Corolla. New United Motors is a joint venture of Toyota and GM....oh, their current joint venture product is the Toyota Matrix and the Pontiac Vibe. More like Toyota selling its cars to GM so that Chevy/Pontiac can rebadge them.

BTW, this happens all the time in car manufacturing.

On the whole Chevy == Toyota thing, yeah, it's very likely true. We have a '92 Ford Escort; the engine is made entirely by Mazda. We have a '88 Ford F-150; the transfer case is made by Mazda. More and more parts are being made by Japanese automakers. I mean, look at Ford/Mercury/Lincoln, for a more domestic example... they all three sell (some models, anyway) the exact same cars, just with more or less cushy stuff, and sometimes slightly different bodywork.

Toyota built the car with Chevy name tags on it.
Just like my Chrysler Sebring LXI coupe. Open the hood and right there on the firewall it says Mitsubishi Motors. Look for parts and there are some listed for an Eclipse that fit my Sebring.

It is very common for auto makers who own more than one company to rebadge a model for both companies.

Another example is the current year Volvo S40/Mazda3/Ford Focus. They share the same platform, but S40 costs quite a bit more than the other 2 for the brand I guess.

I've got a Kenwood Excelon that I like, but it's last years model and I can't get another one just like it. I tried to get a second one for my other car.

I didn't care for a Rockford CD player that I had once.

A salesgirl at Circuit City told me not to get the Sony Explod player because they came back with non working transports often.

I've had bad luck with almost every brand of car radio/player. Up until the Rockford a couple years ago, they were all cassette players.

Get one that plays MP3 discs.
