What are the general range in costs for each of these units? Let's assume my only 'option' would be the cross-coupling. I'm driving ER4P/S's with an iPod. I'm assuming that the PPA would be overkill? Thanks!

I build a PIMETA recently, so AFAIR total was roughly $80-90 - no fancy stuff though, just all the basic components.

I expect PPA at about $150

This is sort of an impossible question to answer... I would suggest this thread as mandatory reading on the subject. Rough estimates for the PIMETA could run anwhere from $100 to $200 including power supply and case while I would expect the PPA to run a bare minimum of around $150 (portable version) to upwards of $400 (see my sig). The beauty of DIY is that it's 100% your choice how you build a particular amp, the downside is that it's 100% up to you how much you spend

.

HTH and best of luck,

Nate

P.s. You don't say if you've built anything before and if you haven't I would steer clear of the PPA, it is not a beginner project.

Yeah I just dropped 160(went with opa627s) at digikey, 120 at mouser, and about 40 at tangent. I ordered extra parts though. Not sure which ones I want to use yet so...I'm building a PPA(with STEPS) btw.

Hey n_maher what brand of resistors are those?

You'd have to be a bit more specific I'm afraid. Most of all of the resistors that I use are just the same Vishay RN55's that most people use. I really like the fact that the value is written right on the part, it makes for much easier trouble shooting.
