Pretty self-explanatory: iPod Classic 120 - XM4 (via Jena cable) - TF10. I'm loving the Triple Fi's at the moment, and the XM4 brings a nice clarity. Though truth be told, I think the sound of the Classic isn't half bad on it's own.

How do you like the XM4? I want to buy it since its the most feature rich amp at that price range. And to drive my yuin OK1. The sound straight out of my ipod classic is too cold with the OK1. Its ok with my sansa clip, but I listen to my classic most of the time.

thanks.

There's something just right about the iphone/itouch and a pair of custom Iem's.

I like the XM4 very much indeed, but would be sceptical about it bringing much warmth to your Yuins. The XM4 is not really 'warmer' than an unamped Classic. To me, the 120 Classic sits on the warm side of neutral already. The XM4 is very neutral sounding. It brings extra weight and clarity to the sound; and the highs are ever so slightly etched (and I mean only slightly)... not enough to bother me. So if the Classic doesn't warm up your Yuins, I doubt the XM4 will. But take what I say with a few grains of salt. There's nothing like trying it for yourself. I think Practical Devices have a generous return policy, and they are a very friendly bunch to deal with.

I use Apple lossless BTW. Wish iTunes supported FLAC.

the nice thing about the XM4 is that you can opamp roll. i replaced the stock opamp with the whitecat upgrade and i think it brought out a bit more depth and warmth across the soundstage while retaining the crispness that i imagine Duckman describes as etched, at least for my ATH-M50s.

i personally like the Analog Devices AD8620. if you are interested in opamp rolling, check out this webpage for some notes on the various opamps available:

Notes on Audio Op-Amps

i also use the XM4 with my ipod classic and a pair of stock sansa clip earbuds... they sound amazing amped with the XM4, considering they are 'throwaway' stock earbuds!

You really need to use something better than those buds to hear what your ipod and XM4 are putting out. That is a serious weak link in an otherwise cool set up.

holy crap. I didn't realize that phone was out yet. That's a lot of money.

Sadly I would have gotten some custom IEMs, and paired it with a crappy Sansa Clip.
