Yes, that is what I did. Since I am not ready to gut out my new headphone. The headphone end of the cable is actually a low profile mini jack similar to an iPhone cable, and since none of the DIY mini jack is slim enough to be plugged directly into the headphone I have to do this, or get an iPhone adapter.

My recabling is not so much motivated on looking to improve the sound quality. The original cable is a coiled cable that is heavy, looks dorky and bounces around when I am walking. The only plus is the new cable is shielded.

I have not noticed any difference, but I didn't expect or look for any changes either. Someday I might solder a mini plug onto the cut original cable and do a comparison. The cable I got is a rather cheap Canare cable, if it weren't for convenience I would not bother to recable it, unless somehow I lay my hand on a high end cable.

Here's the full portable setup in its little pouch

And what's inside the little blue ninja?

DSC00828.jpg

why a number of smaller pouches!

And inside those pouches...

ah, there's an A728 and FiiO E3 plus EC7, CKM50 and FXC50.

and a closer shot of the E3

E3 with EC7, this is the main portable setup, with the canalphones for the train or bus.

a new mini-mini ic I just made today.

DSC00840.jpg

my "around the house" setup. This sounds very nice actually.

What do you think of the FCX50s? I have them and although they have an overall great sound quality, they have too much sibilance and I can't listen to them.

I'll be first in line for one when it comes out. My store will probably have thousands of copies. I'm impatient, however. Saw it twice in the theater and now once at home.

And yeah, pretty excellent indeed.

I haven't noticed them to be particularly sibilant. I prefer the sound of the CKM50, which I feel is a bit more balanced or the EC7, which does guitars wonderfully. But the FXC50 has great isolation for a canalphone and is nice for the train or the bus.

Works from the batteries of 3-5 hours.
Not good, I agree with you.

I use
APC Mobile Power Pack, 10Wh
to extend twice or more its working time:

My Rig;
Pretty simple, it's my gym rig, portable rig etc, and generally gets used everywhere.

iPod Video 30GB
Audio Technica ATH-CK7

Scratched to hell of course.

And dented to boot.

Sorry for the poor picture, it was taken with the rather out of focus camera from my N95
