Sweet photos, mind sharing your impressions so far? Always nice to hear some word from new owners.

I really like these headphones.  I have only spent about eight hours listening to them, so I can't say definitively what they are like for me.  But I can begin by saying that I am coming from the HD600 with a SA Equinox cable, and I have also owned the RS1, HP1000, and K1000.  The presentation of the HD800 is so much different it is hard to compare its sound to other headphones.  When I switch to the HD600, the 600 seems like it has more bass.  But then switching back, it is clear that it is not the amount of bass or the impact, it is the presentation.  The HD800 just has such a wider, more open presentation that it is deceptive.  I can see how one could think it was sterile or laid back or uninvolving (I think those are criticisms it receives).  I don't find it that way at all, though.  I find the impact and power is all there.  It is just not as "in your face."  The resolution of the HD800 is rather higher than the HD600.  Again, I need to listen more and get this headphone into my bones before I can really make any serious comments about it.  Suffice it to say that I really like them.  My first impression is that they are easier to listen to than any headphone I have owned, have higher resolution and better soundstaging, and are more comfortable than any I have owned as well.  And they LEAK LIKE CRAZY!  Might as well have the K1000 on your head.

Is that a Blackie amp?

Yep.  Blackie just moved back to NYC so I took it in to him for a check up.  I can't believe I have had this thing for something like six years now.  Or more?  Who knows?  I have never felt the desire to upgrade or listen to anything else.  Of course, I had that Tango iron put in.  But that's about it.  It's a big change, but still, the basic framwork is the same.

My system is very low-fi... I use the Meridian 808.2 as my source. Currently thinking about changing this CDP to an Esoteric K-01 or K-03+G-02 (Master Clock) considering my taste. For some reason I'm just attracted to the sharp and high-res sound of Esoteric.

The SRM-727 is what is use to drive my SR-009, though I know that, after comparing the 727 (in direct mode) + high quality preamp to the 727 (in variable mode) alone, I would have to purchase an upgrade sometime later to drive the SR-009 fully. Maybe the BHSE or buying a good preamp? I'm not sure yet.

Anyway, I have the TiGLON TMX-3 insulator spike+plate combo under my 808.2, as well as an Sunshine ABA board. My SRM-727 has 3 DIY insulators under them too. (The SR-009 and the rack are just on the 727 cuz of picture taking :) )

As of my cables. I just sold my JPS Aluminata power cable (used to be connected to my 808.2) and upgraded to Dnya Audio Gold Rosary (DIY cable made by an audiophile in California). I'm also using the JPS Superconductor Q RCA inter-connector, though I'm also upgrading it to the Dnya Audio Shiroyuki LE. My SRM-727 uses the Dnya Audio Silver as its power cable.

Cheers :)

Very nice! I love seeing the WEE get some love, especially with some big ole high quality amp like yours.

Thank you ! Its surpasses every amp I own. It adds more opening, fluidity, bass extension, serenity. Moreover it can drive speakers.

I'd actually like to know more on the benefits of a preamp in a 727 -> 009 chain. Does anyone have a clue on why you would do this?

The preamp part of the 727 itself is ill-designed; therefore, with a better preamp, you can actually get a much fuller and more punchy sound on the 009. Not saying the 727's preamp is hardly listenable, it's just that you can easily hear a difference with a preamp hooked up to a 727 in direct mode.

This is a cheater!  I only had the Cavalli LAu for about 10 days.  Also used my non balanced Q-Cable for the shot because it looked better than the balanced one I borrowed.  Man I miss this amp.  Sublime.  If I did buy it I'd have to change the color on the DAC to black!
