Are the 555s that much different from the 595s? Baring in mind my source would be a PC would I notice the difference?

Probably not unless you have some high end soundcard.

Not atm, but I plan on buying a new system. If I could buy one with the new sysem I would, but I can't seem to find a dealer who ships with anything other than audgity cards. Then again, maybe that's best for gaming and Ive heard high-end cards can be CPU-intesive. But still, I may in the future add a new card and then I'd have to/probably want to upgrade my headphones again...so the philosophy of spend now save later seems relevant here!

By the way, does the DT440s have the same headband as the HFI650s?

Well, I have a STAudio DSP24 Value (Envy24 chipset) soundcard and I'm using the headphone out from a NAD C300 integrated amplifier and the source is still my weakest link. You'll need some pretty good gear to hear the difference between the 555 and 595, but I'll let gsferrari chime in with his opinion as he has heard both

I haven't held one of the newer Ultrasones in my own hands, yet - but yes, at least it appears to be the same "headband".
