will be using a computer source (as soon as i get around to building it) with an emu 0404 card as source. would like some reccomendations for phones in the $100 range, as well as amps. i mainly listen to classic rock, classical, jazz, and electronica. would like some good synergy between components. i've been looking at the headsave go-vibe as source, so i could also use it with my portable rig. or headsave classic.

any opinons?

by the way, i have a sonic impact t-amp and a pair of axiom m3ti speakers as my main "background music and cookin" system. i'd like something with some more detail, as well as base (oh, what am i saying, i just want more everything). i know the 0404 is supposed to be "warm", so i was thinking something in the grado family such as the allesandro ms-1 with their apparent "shrill" sound, might work well together; whereas maybe a sennheiser 580 or so would make it all too warm and fuzzy

Well I have heard those speakers before, and the posess a treble that sounds much more Grado-like than it does Senn-like, in character, not volume. Most Grados are overly bright. Apparently the Alessandros solve this. Though I have not heard them before, I would think this would make the MS1 a good pick for you, if you want something like your speakers, with more bass, aside from the fact that they are apparently some of the best value cans around anyway.

Remember you can also tune the sound of the amp via the op-amp selection, so that's another link (amp-to-phones) in the synergy-chain to consider

thanks guys

i think i just realized that what i thought people were saying the 0404 sounded like is not actually correct. apparently the 0404 is noted to be aggresive rather than warm

maybe i'll give the senns a try. i'll keep thinking about this
