I have bought PHONAK Audeo PFE 121 headphones for my old iPhone 3G. The sound is crispy clear, but lacks basses in opposite to my previous basic Apple headphones. I tried both gray and black filters and both types of ear tips. Then I read here about a burn-in process. There is an utility on AppStore, called hpBurnIn, that could do it for me, but what are the right sound samples that I should use (there are different kinds of noises and so) and length of the whole process on these exact headphones? Does anybody have any experience with PHONAKs? I gave all my spare money for those headphones, so I'm a bit afraid to just burn them in without a proper guidance

Due to the nature of the drivers in the PFEs, they do not require burn-in. What you need to work on is improving the seal against your ears. For this, I had to buy some Shure Olives as the stock tips were not to my liking.

welcome to headfi
the amount you are hearing is how much the phonaks will have forever. You can adjust your sound preference, try to bass boost the eq on your pmp/ music player, or return them. Unfortunately things like this happen when you don't research enough before you buy.
I would look into phones like the klipsch s4, futuresonic atrio, and monster turbines, which are in same price range, and will have more bass. ljokerl's and clieos comparison threads are good places to start.

black filters plus foam tips should provide a pretty decent amount of bass - are you getting a really effective seal?
I doubt much more bass will come out with burn in, as the other guy said, BA drivers generally don't change much over time.
other than that maybe give them a little time to grow on you - once you get used to the sound you may find your previous earphones too bassy

I also just got my PFEs a couple days ago and have had a similar experience as you. I have found the bass to be punchy but not over the top compared to the cheap Sony's I have been using.

It is a bit difficult to buy SHURE Olives in my country, but it seems more ppl say that these tips are quite good, so I definitely buy them somewhere. Thx for the tip!
Not only on this forum I can read, that PHONAKs can't be burned-in, because of the drivers they use. I have already purchased the iPhone app, so I left it running under a pillow for first 43 hours of white and pink noise and medium volume. Than I made a test, currently using black filters and the biggest silicone tips. I have to say, I can feel some improvements. I'm not sure, if it is because of the burn-in process itself or a better positioning of the tips inside my ears, but I'm much happier with these headphones now! I will finish the burn-in (107 hours left) and let my brain to think it improves my headphones even more
