Philly signs Vick.

Looks like Vick has stayed in shape and has pretty good zip on the ball. You gotta believe they use him at more than QB. Do they use him as a receiver or in the backfield?

Question for all of the people out there singing "He's paid his time, let him get on with his life." What is your position on pedophiles who have served their time? Are you cool with them moving in next door to you and your children?

Mods, go ahead and lock er up. It can't stay on topic because of the morality issues. Human phobias and judgmental natures are too deeply rooted to have a free discussion without interjecting off topic expressions of personal attitude.

Would anyone want a convicted business executive living next to them, a murderer, a pedophile, a dog fighter? No, I don't think anyone wants to have a criminal in their neighborhood. What does that have to do with a young man doing what they know how to do for a living? The NFL has given him the ok to make a return to his profession. The judge and jury have exacted their payment for his actions. Whatever our personal judgments, he has fulfilled his obligations according to our judicial and professional standards.

Time to move on.

Just because people all have different views doesn't mean this thread needs to get closed. This is a touchy subject and people feel strongly about it. I was under the impression that this thread was about what people think of Vick being signed again. We all know he did time in jail and he cried and feels bad but that says nothing about the actual issue.

Depending on how long they spent in jail, then yes. I would like to be aware that they are there, but I won't prohibit them from living their lives if they are free.

I don't even think this is a fair question to ask.

For the record, I think pedophilia is far more despicable than running/financing a dog fighting ring and cannot even be compared. Mike Vick won't be dreaming of taking your dogs away from you at night, juicing them up with steroids and putting them on an intense workout regimen so they can fight other dogs to the death. Rest easy.

Martha Stewart is a convicted felon. So is Robert Downey Jr. I don't think most people would be indignant if they moved next door to them.

Let that simmer in your mind for a minute.

The issue of criminality is a funny one. How would you know if someone is involved in criminal activity? If you are using convicted felon status solely, then you don't know anything about criminals.

People want someone to hate, someone to distract them from their own inhumanity.

Since we are supposed to be talking about Vick's athletic prowess in this thread, I'd have to say that he's the fastest convicted felon that I've seen since Rae Carruth. Carruth has better hands though.

The NFL has a history of letting convicted felons back in to the league. They can't hold public office or work in other real professions, but they can play pro football. They also play in stadiums that are built with tax dollars. Millionaire convicted criminals that are subsidized by taxes. Does that seem wrong to anyone but me?

But, hey, he still has some zip on that spiral and I think he gained a step by working out in the prison yard by dodging other, non-celebrity, felons.

I hope they let him play both sides of the line. He'd make a great Safety, but I really hope they let him be a Kick Returner...

I'd pay to see that, myself.

Agreed.

People love to rattle off stats about how many convicted felons are repeat offenders. I wonder if they bother to think that maybe the fact that they shun these people and close every avenue they have for rebuilding their lives legally exacerbates their lawlessness.

You know, I smell a conspiracy here. Let's look at some of things to come out the Vick situation.

1. Atlanta draft Ryan - a great young qb - and is freed of Vick's gigantic contract.

2. Phili will receive a quality backup at a bargain price.

3. PETA now has a huge whipping boy. Bet they go to that well a lot.

4. Roger Goodhell has put his stamp of authority on the league with labor negotiations on the horizon.

Yep, chalk up another win for the man.

Unless Vick changes his uniform number, he will only be able to line up at the quarterback position. According to NFL official rules, uniform numbers 1-9 are exclusive to kickers and quarterbacks. If Reid wanted to line up Vick as a receiver, tight end or quarterback, Vick would have to wear a number between 10 and 19. So as long as Vick wears #7, he is a quarterback, and is ineligible to play any other position (besides kicker/punter).
