Hey guys,
I'm a newcomer to this "audiophile" business but I've always enjoyed having good sound.

A few years ago I wanted some good headphones to listen to my music with and so I bought a Philips SHP895 that I found for a good price while on vacation. I've started looking around online (Just after finding this website

) for a possible replacement but I don't know what these headphones can be compared too. If possible, what "tier" - so to speak - would my Philips lie on?

thanks for any advice.

EDIT: If it's of any importance, I use it with my Pioneer receiver and the Sansa fuze. FLAC on the reciever and V4 mp3s on the Sansa.

Well I've looked at a lot of them online but I don't know of any local places that I can test them out at. I live in Vancouver BC. I would mainly like to know what my current headphones can be compared to so I can see where I stand.

the hp895 sounds like a lower end beyerdynamic dt880. the large philips headphones generaly have nice sound but lousy build quality and can compete sound-wise with most headphones in the sub $100 class.

a bigger and better sound for you would probably be an audio technica art series or beyer dt series

Thanks. I was actually looking at the Audio Technica A700 or AD700. What are the differences between the two? I know that one is closed and the other is open. Is a deeper bass the main difference? I mostly listen to rock and metal.

I have this Philips SHP895 - great BASSS! And so - i changed 895 on the BeyerD DT880 (05/250) - most detailet, bass perfect (on my amp).

Thanks Vadeus. I'm looking at the Denon D2000s right now, hopefully their a big step up from the Philips.
