i've not heard anyone here recommend or even talk about Philips, wonder how they compare to PK3

The main problem with Philips, I think, is the limited distribution outside of Europe. As I've read on several forums, their old products (but not very old

) seem to be "crappy" but the new ones are good. In fact, Philips was indeed a "middle" quality player but now is insisting on changing their image with the customers and turn into a high-tech company.
I don't know about this specific model but what I want to say is: don't be surprised if they are indeed good!

i bought the SHE2650 and they are alright for non-canal type earphones, but being a bass head i cant rate it highly as it just cant match canal obviously.

wondering if these "turbo bass" version would bridge the gap considerably

well i have the Genelec HT210B monitors but i didnt think they came in a goldish colour and on closer inspection they do look different, i just recognised the cone surround and so on...never mind
