I haven't heard the 580, but I've owned the other three. I'd say HP1000>HD595>SR225. The gap between the 1000 and 595 is much closer than the 595 and 225. I don't think the 1000 needs an amp, either. I have never used an amp, I drive it straight from a Rio Karma, and it sounds great. It's only limited in that rig by the limitations of mp3.

MaZa, if you are concerned about build quality, then the 595 is a better way to go. You get about 90% of the 1000 in regards to sound (slightly less soundstage and a little less articulate high end), and a better overall construction. The 595 is smaller also, which might make a difference. Also keep in the mind the 1000 has a removeable cable, should you want to do an easy cable swap.

EyeAmEye, are you the guy who got the hp1000 for 43 dollars on e-bay?

It was I indeed. Easily the best bargain I've ever found. I got it shortly after purchasing the 595, and within a few days, the 595 was boxed and shipped to a new owner. A bit after that, I tried the 225 unmodded, then woodied/recabled, and shipped off about a month after that. The HP1000 isn't great at anything, it's just pretty darn good at almost everything. An all-rounder like that is a keeper. Build construction could be better, certainly, but it's extremely light and very comfortable.

MaZa, I've seen the HP1000 been sold at some Prisma markets, like in Turku for 99.95€, also at Gigantti in Vaasa for 129€ or something, and at Anttila and Prisma in Vaasa for 99.95€ (but for what I remember they're sold out at the two last markets.).

BUT the HP1500 is still on the market check out this link:
http://www.netanttila.com/webapp/wcs...oductId=232034

As you might know, the HP1500 are exactly the same phones, but it comes with a surround amplifier. The price isn't bad at all, considering that at other internet stores in Finland they cost at least 250€, as you can check out for yourself from the following link:
http://www.mbnet.fi/hintaseuranta/tuote.aspx/31524

I've listened the HP1000 at Gigantti with my iPod Mini, and it sounded quite ok. But iPod isn't the best source so... They were a little heavy and my ears started to warm up quite quickly. Now I own a pair of Senn HD 595, but I'm giving a serious thought for selling them... So if you're interested to buy 595 instead of 1000 (1500), just contact me.

Thanks. Surround amplifier? I wonder how crap it might sound.

For classical, I'm sure it would be ultra cheesy! But surround dsps aren't so bad for movies IMHO! I've got winDVD on my laptop: dolby headphone is OK, really like SRS's 3D headphone.

Actually, I was thinking that if the HP1000 is so hard to find.....how about tryng to find a used HD580 Maza? The 580s sound almost identical to the 600s. Only difference being slightly different bass response/ soundstage from the difference in grills. And you can mod it to be better then a stock 600 (by adding 600 grills and a 650 cable). Just an idea for getting instant HD600 gratification on a budget!

Every once inawhile, there's a head-fier dissatisfied with their 580.....hey, wait a minute....there's a guy on this thread who found out the hard way he doesn't have a setup for it!!!! Might be worth it to contact him and see if he's willing to sell

http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=208560

If not FS at Head-Fi, the 580s are being sold new here in the States ($140 USD).....maybe there's a way to finagle someone buying them here for you. I've got my 8 year old 580s that are probably going to go with me to my grave

Well, HiFiKrug sells them here for 169€ new, and HD600 is 220-250€ new. It IS a bargain. Gotta order the HD650 cable with HD580 though.

Might as well go for the best!!! Sennheiser sells the 650 cable through their parts department. Here in the states, I've noticed that E-bayers sell them at rediculous prices.

The Sennheiser part number is 092885 (around $13 USD)
the 650 cord has the 1/4 plug....can buy the corded 1/4 to 1/8 adapter: 092595 ($4.86)

and when you might want 600 grills....092815 ($7.82USD)

The 650 cord is worth it.....my 580/600 cords would go out all the time because they were so flimsy.

Perhaps. That would save me from buying HD650 later. Or if i would find bass too weak, i can always sell it! There seems to be always buyers for HD580. Too bad HiFikrug doesnt carry HD650 cable and thomann, which has them, (only place that im aware of here) only ships over 50€ orders only.

But it depends what Fozi asks for his HD595. Already contacted him, so im kinda bound to wait his offer before making any final decisions.

Well I actually use both my 595 and 580 for listening to classical music. The 595 is better for big symphonies....IMHO....because of its brightness. The 580 is better for chamber music, and it's tonality really is great for percussions. Since classical guitar is one of my favorites/ I'm never going to give up on the 580.

The 580 has just as much bass as the 600.....so you'd only need to save money up for the 650! Since the 650 has more treble has well.....I'm thinking it might be better for symphonies then the 580 or 600.

For the 650 cable, I would think that Sennheiser Europe provides service to Finland. You can try calling them to see if they sell parts (they must, if the US branch does it here).
