Good evening everyone, I'm undecided between the X2hr and the sennheiser hd 599 .. Consider that I love the sound of the XBA-N3 so I love the bass, but I don't want excessive bass, such as in the meze 99 classics. I just tried the hd560s I found them too neutral for my taste .. Thanks in advance for any advice

No, the X2HR doesn't have excessive bass like the Meze 99 Classics and I own the latter too. I had the HD560S and didn't like it one bit. It's fatiguing quickly too.

I've tried X2HR, and they actually have far less bass than XBA-N3. They are great headphones but I'm not looking for that kind of sound. I probably have to look at the closed headphones. Can you recommend any closed models with the sound similar to N3?

Hi folks. I own a Philips X1 and an X2HR (two homes) and I love both. Hardly surprising the earpads of the X1 needed replacement and I went for Brainwavz round velour in standard size which fit well over the original plastic plates. Looks as new, but: I feel the sound is now quite "muffled" and with heavy tinnitus I have nothing to spare in this respect. Maybe that's because of the smaller opening.

On ebay there are replacements complete with plastic plate. Anyone tried these with good results? Or should I just go for the larger diameter Brainwavz?

I run the headphones from a FIIO BTR5 or a FIIO Montblanc (when I want more oomph). The BTR5 could power the Philips X3 via the 2.5 mm balanced output, would it be a viable option to replace the X1 with X3?

I never heard the X3 so can't answer there. Also don't know what ebay replacement pads you speak of.

My only caution to you is in selecting these ebay pads, try to get a fabric similar to what's on the headphone currently. If it's velour, try for velour, or failing that, suede. Perforated leather/pleather might also be an option, but the further you get from original pad materials, the more likely you'll get unwelcome sonic changes.

IF none of that works, you definitely can go the Brainwavz round pads route. I've done it--kind of a pain in the ass, but doable. But again, go for velour if what's on the HP is velour. Here are the pads I'm thinking of:

Note that these pads won't come with plastic plate. You have to stretch each pad's backflap around the earcup's base--and very carefully cut a hole over the cable jack on one earcup so the cable can be reinserted. Like I said, a PITA. When I did this I used the wrong brainwavz pads (100 mm pleather). It fit surprisingly well but was the wrong material & changed the sound. I'm guessing velour would be way better.

OK, I had it backwards.

But the ear openings on those German pads from ebay are even smaller than the Brainwavz...not sure that'll do much better for you.

What about the Dekoni pads for the X2? You can order those in velour:

I've never actually heard or even seen an X1. But I do know it's very difficult to replace the X2's pads successfully/without sonic degradation. Many here have tried.

Can confirm. Over the summer I bought a used X2HR that came with earpad adapters and a whole pile of third-party earpads. Looked to be mostly different Brainwavz varieties. Either way, I tried them all, and by far my favorite pads are the stock ones.

I tested the X2HR. Stock pads were too small and itchy, so I added Dekoni pads. Those pads are a lot more comfortable. Bass is great on those headphones. Somehow the clamp was still too strong so I couldn't wear them for hours. Ended up returning them. Maybe it could be better if I bent the headband. All I can say is: if your budget is not high, those earphones are really worth it.

All you need to do is stretch the headband.

As for pads, I'm using 3D printed adapters + Shure 940 velour pads. Very similar to stock pads, but much softer velour and better padding. I tried the Dekoni suede pads, but they are too thick and muddy the sound too much for me. The Dekoni pads are very comfortable, but due to how thick they are they do add to the clamping force.

Just tested x2hr, got 'em for 65.99 GBP, frickin' steal, the bass is amazing, nothing what was i afraid of, and don't know if I heard anything like this, my last 7 years were wasted listening to bass headphones, outdoes my akg k702 and sony ma900 and akg n700nc m2 in term of sounding fuller. 25 yard screamer and Olly Steele songs sound absolutely mindblowing. And fps games do sound good, the directionality of steps and bullets very easy to pick

They aren't OEM pads, so who knows if the sound will be the same.
Going by the ad description though, I can say for a fact the eardpads on my X2 aren't "Material: flannel + sponge"

Tried chinese 100-110 mm something pleather pads without hooks, with grilled flannel, they just added more bass, which didn't sound as excellent as the original pads, they ruined Rammstein songs a bit for me, so went to original pads instantly
