I'm wondering what standoffs you guys generally use (brand and diameter). I think #3 is the right diameter for most pcbs, but am not sure.
Also I assume most people use counter sunk screws to attach the standoffs to the case.
I'm looking for hardware available from digikey or mouser.
It's not that I'm being blatantly lazy. I'm just looking for some advice from people with experience using them.

to be honest i never use countersunk screws, nobody sees the underside of the case, put some nice feet on it to finish.

I'm not worried about it looking bad, but I use generic 1/8" rubber feet. If the component ends up being stacked or put on a nice table scratches are a real danger.

countersink or use bigger feet. I like big chunky feet.

They should have exactly what you need. I usually use a #4 for PCB standoffs, though some boards will accept a #6.

I bought some #4s from digikey and they don't fit the Pimeta, Tread or Alien. It seems like all of those are #3 or smaller.
Am I missing something?

You could tap your case and screw the standoffs directly into it. Get some male-female hex thread standoffs and an appropriate tap & tap handle (and maybe the right sized drill too), all available from McMaster-Carr. Tap the holes and thread the standoffs right in. Easy.

I think most boards are designed for either a #4 or M3 screw. I haven't seen any myself that are as tiny as #3. I would go with M3 or #4-40.
