PC Settings for Nuforce uDAC -2

I've just bought  the above and tried it out on my laptop at work and it just worked beautifully from the word go. My home PC was another story. After a bit of experimentation I worked out that I had to make the uDAC the default sound device. Not a problem but I was then presented with a number of options regarding bitrate etc and couldn't get it to work until I set it to 24/48 Khz.
 
At the moment I've still got it set on 24bit/48Khz but there are other options.
 
To save me a lot of playing around tonight what settings would you recommend? At the moment I can play both MP3 files via a media player and my onboard CD player also works. Would setting it to 24/96 stop anything from working?

Setting higher bit depth and sample rate settings will just enable your DAC to output higher formats, while maintaining output for the lower formats. So you can rest assured that the only thing that might complain a bit is your cpu

(though not really much of a concern for current computers)

The problem has got worse - I can't get my uDAC2 to work continuously with my PC. I'm running W7 and have an Invidia soundcard set up. I have set up the uDAC as the default but can't get it to make any sounds at all. I suspect that this is all to do with what I've instructed my PC to ddo with sound but can't figure out what I've done wrong. Help here would be appreciated. What do I have to configure to make this work? Cheers

Go to device manager and disable any other sound devices, some older motherboards have issues with handling multiple sound devices active at the same time.

This is a new mother board but your suggestion worked so thanks. One other little glitch. When I rebooted this morning there was an annoying little pulse of static at one second intervals through the system. Disconnecting and reconnecting the uDAC solved this but I don't really want to have to do this every time. I do have a W7 gadget which is a clock with a second hand but it's not designed to make any sound and turning off the second hand made no difference.
