Well I'm not sure if this is the right section, but I guess that someone might be able to advise me.
I use a microphone to talk to friends (Teamspeak) when playing games and I am currently using a really bad mic. I don't use a headset so I need a seperate mic alongside my headphones.

I was wondering if there is a significant difference in quality between the better mics and the one I have. I'm thinking about a Logitech desktop mic, as it's all I can find. Any suggestions are welcome

Look at some of the professional gear. AKG makes good mikes, try typing "AKG microphone" in on eBay and see what turns up. Any of their stuff should be a lot better than what you'd find at a computer store.

Seconded. With a USB mic you won't have to worry about amplification.
