I paid for a cable from Shellbrook Audio on October 28 and never recieved it. After agreeing to delays for several weeks, the company quit communicating with me all together and ignored my request for a refund.

So I did the logical thing and went to PayPal to try to get my money back. Well, I filled out a on-line dispute form and no sooner than I hit enter I get a message telling me that the dispute has been closed because it had been more than 30 days since I paid for the item. Nice, huh?

Well, I did the next logical thing and began looking for a phone number. Eventually I found one and even though it was long distance, I called several times. Each time I sat on hold forever and eventually gave up.

Luckily, I found a website called PayPalsucks.com and got some good advice. I called the credit card company that PayPal had billed and asked them to do a charge-back for nondelievered goods. Presto, blamo--problem solved. My credit card company immediately removed the charge.

I hope noone else has similar problems paying for something in advance only to get burned, but this a great way to save yourself some time and heartache if you do.

I'm glad you were able to resolve your problem with PayPal.

I know PayPal is almost universally used, but I have had some serious problems with them and I caution everyone I can about PayPal.

Anyone who uses PayPal should definitely bookmark the site

PayPalsucks.com

for future reference.

Yes, that's the way to do it if the 30 day PayPal dispute has passed. Don't think it's over though, PayPal will now open up a dispute resolution and will contact you soon. I went through the same thing some time ago. If like me, you have all the emails from the other party which show you are in the right, nothing happens in the end any different. If they find the other party is in the right, even though you got a chargeback, PayPal will take that amount out of your account, either PayPal or your bank that's linked to it. You've extended the 30 days successfully, but not finalized the dispute...

Maybe I should try that on the person McLaren

I send him mails regularly but he doesn't answer...

So, does anybody know how long after the transaction one can wait before reporting it to the credit card company? I did the transaction in June or July.

Thanks in advance,
Rasmus

Glad to hear you made some progress in recovering your loss so far, but like Xanadu777 had mentioned earlier it may not be over yet. Paypal has a history of leaving their customer shafted when the time comes to rocover money lossed in bad transaction. Paypal won't even refund you 100% of the amount loss if it is huge, IIRC the max Paypal will payout in a bad transaction is $250.

i ordered some cables from Shellbrook Audio before. then i didnt received it for two weeks. it took me two emails, and the second time i got a reply saying that it was supposed to take care of. i think he meant he was the main man and someone else was supposed to be responsible for shipping, and that he'll take care of it himself. and a few days after i got the cables.

hello,

The max paypal will pay out on a bad transaction is $500.00 USD or the equivilent of.

Thats what the paypal guarantee states and I have had to use it in the recent past to collect on a bad transaction overseas.
