Hmm. I keep seeing sellers and buyers alike saying that sending money through PayPal as a "gift" doesn't incur PayPal fees.

However, every time I try to send money as a "gift", I still get hit by a fee.

You have to have the full amount on your PP balance. To achieve this: first sell, then buy.

There's another side "benefit" to paying as a gift that's not too fun if things go bad for the buyer.

Yeah... it's also fraud. Both seller and buyer, depending on evidence PayPal and supporting evidence both parties can provide, can be charged, not to mention PayPal has a habit of freezing funds and there is nothing you can do about it.

True, but if you send it as payment owed as opposed to gift there is also no fees if linked to a checking account. Therefore it would get around the whole fraud thing, as it is a payment owed.

This thread reminds me - I've got to unlink my checking account from my paypal account.

No fees for "gift" payment only if paid in full by Paypal account balance, if paid via credit card fees will be charge like normal transaction.

I think its a bad idea paying by gift transaction, i would rather paid the fee and get some insurance...
