Once again....

I'm having trouble choosing between PAV2 or the Xmoy2 as my first amp, and an amp to power my Shure E4's.

Which one? Need Suggestions...

I did my reasearch if you want to know....

so I'm not asking out of pure ignorance. This would be my final desicion, before I bite the bullet and purchase one of these.

Why don't you begin by sharing what you've learned from your research? The Pocket Amp is well known here but I hadn't heard of the xmoy2 until you mentioned it.

From what I've read on this forum, the PAV2 is worth the money, but the Xmoy2 is a different beast from the PAV2, which is something I wanna try out.

The PAV2 from what I've read is great for the money, from different opinions, I've read that they can drive almost any headphone, it's small, and you can recharge NiMH batteries in it. It comes with an interconnect, people use it with small IEM's to Koss and to Grado's and Sennheisers.

I like what I read off Electric Avenues, and that Gary will fix it if it breaks,

The PAV2 is $60 Dollars, and Gary will ship it to me directly.

The Xmoy2 is in an altoids tin, It uses the Burr Brown OPA2134, it has to Use 9V batteries, It also contains a charger, It has a timed Switch, so you only leave it on for a certain time before it shuts down, or you can leave it on as long as you want, It gets up to 50 hours of battery life and can drive most Dynamic headphones.

The Xmoy2 is 80 Dollars off practical Devices.

I can afford either one, but I need some opinions.

I hear some praise on the PAV2, but the Xmoy2 is a mystery, because not many people own it and I want to be one of the reviewers.

I like both on small size and recharging capability. I can attatch it with velcro to my iPod case along with a Sik Ram Din.

That's pretty much what I got off both websites, and some of the reviews aided me in finding the PAV2.

I think that's as far as you're gonna get for info about the two on head-fi because hardly anyone here owns a Xmoy2.
So you can play it safe and get a PAV2 or simple Cmoy as there's plenty info on those, or take a change on the Xmoy2.

I was close to buying the Xmoy myself after reading all the features and he also had good feedbacks on ebay. You can also request a socketed amp so you can play around with diferent op-amps which I like. With the PA2V2 you know you can't go wrong but I am also very curious about the Xmoy2 for all the features it offers it sounds like a good deal. If you do get it please post your impressions.

With the amount of $$$ I have, I'll probably take both.

I'm using the Xmoy2 right now and have been for about a week
but unfortunately cannot comment on it in comparison with others
for the lack of equipment and experience....

This is my first amp and er4p/SA3K are the only phones I have
of reasonable quality so I'm just tiptoeing into the audiophile realm

All I can tell is that I feel noticible improvement in some tracks
(usually quiter ones with more emphasis on vocal) while on some I don't.

But can't be too sure on this either since the best source I've got is the
lineout from my HDDP... (going to upgrade to Headroom MicroDac soon)

Maybe I'd be waiting for YOUR impressions to see how it stands up
against other amps of comparable price range

When I get either or both, the comparison I will use is a headroom coda... That's pretty much it, and I'll be using the line out of my iPod.

Well, I can tell you that everything sounds better - much better - on my PAV2. I'd say stay away from the CMOY2 if noticible improvement is only heard on some tracks.

I've heard it's a common thing for noobs like me to be not able to immediately
tell the difference of a better system when they first audition them

Also keep in mind that I probably have less than 20 hours of listening with
either the amp or cans (got them pretty recently, and not burned in at all)
and many of my tracks are encoded in less-than-perfect quality.

I'll do some more intense listening once I upgrade my source,
so hold on and don't jump to conclusions yet...

And I also see that at least 2 people here are getting the amp pretty soon,
so you could get some reliable feedback from seasoned head-fiers then

Sorry CSMV, didn't mean to knock you with my comments. I haven't heard the cmoy2. I'm a newbie, too. But I did find that the PAV2 to be a fine amp with rich bass and a warm midrange. I can't think of a better expenditure for these little amps, no matter what you choose.
