OK, so it is only my first DIY'd CMoy amp. But I have the bug pretty bad already, like most of the people here. I was up late into the wee hours of the morning, soldering on my RatShack perf board.

Too late, actually.

How do I know? Well, about 1:30 am, my soldering iron stopped working. I heated the pad and jumper that I was installing but i just couldn't get it hot enought to melt the solder.

Waiting, waiting, waiting.

Then, after waaaay too long, I realized that I was trying to solder with 24 awg tinned copper wire instead of solder.

Okeydoke, time to go to sleep....

Anyone else done anything stupid that was exhaustion-induced? Am I the only idiot out here?

i was exhausted teching lights for this show once so i went outside for a cigarette. i was smoking one in one hand and playing with an unlit one in the other and when i went to go put the one i was playing with behind my ear... it was the lit one.

woke me up a little bit i must say.

i'm sure i got more hiding somewhere back in my brain.

the holder is from radioshack, i really like chrome led holders, i think they make the led look birghter and sexier

I wired a crossfeed board up to a META42 backwards once. And because I cut my wires pretty close to the minimum length, I didn't have enough slack to desolder them and move them to the right pads. I had to completely rewire the signal path on that amp. Ouch.

Why doesn't my CMoy work!?!?

It turns out.. I didn't jumper R5. Duh. I even looked at the thing and thought.. Hmm, those pins on the opamp don't have anything connected to 'em... then *click*.

I am proud to say that I never make such stupid mistakes as you people...

Was that lightning that just struck near me?!?!

Okay, so I'm lying through my teeth.

The (very painful) mistake I used to always make was picking up the iron by the element... Ouch! Getting one of those "spring holders" solved that problem - now I only grab the spring

I also seem to have a fondness for connecting power supplies backwards. All of my circuit designs get tested for reverse power sensitivity, whether I intended to or not!

But since I mainly design switchmode power supplies, errors often produce quite spectacular results

It's better'n the fourth o' july around my place, sometimes!

I did this with a MINT. When I fired it up, it literally smoked...

hehehe...

I wired the power cables on a META backwards, took me two tle2426 chips to figure out what was wrong.. =(

Anyone else notice how good solder smells? and how bad burning chips smell?

I always etch boards in my laundry room.
Where to put the used FeCl? Hmm...
how about this empty laundry detergent
bottle?

Well, sometime later I was doing my laundry, and
wound up with sickly yellow colored clothing.
