Passive volume control - 10K pot be okay?

I'm most likely going to set up a little passive volume control box so I can listen to my Xbox360 with headphones (all my amps are straight thru, no volume control). I'm not looking to spend much money on it, I'll probably just get the smallest Hammond I can and put two pair of RCAs on the back and a Blue Velvet volume control up front. I was wondering if 10K would be alright, or should I be looking for something with less resistance? Also which Hammond model would this little project be best suited for? TIA.

I know this is going to sound odd, but I say go a 20K rather than 10 if you have the option, blue velvet pots track very well, and they're analogue (obviously) so resolution is a non issue.

the smallest hammond probably won't fit a BV in it(I have one sitting on my desk, and my m3 is still bare, so a quick comparison to the BVs there says it's a no no), have you thought about using a small watch box or building a small wooden box for it? not a huge amount of effort required either way

Thanks Jazper for the recommendation. For some reason I'm having difficulty locating a BV in 20-25k, however Percy stocks the Noble pots at 25k for $20, that would probably be a decent alternative, they are a little smaller at 27mm. Although I like the look of wood I'm actually trying to find a small box in silver to match all my other stuff.

25k should be fine and I've heard good things about Noble pots though 27mm is still too big for the smallest hammond.

I think the 2nd smallest might work.. but it's 2:40 am here and I'm tired so I might screw up researching at mouser for it. The main issue you're going to run into is the width of the hammond, the smallest only has room for about 3 RCAS on the back and front panels. I'd guess one step up wouldn't be much better.

I reserved it a few months ago and people are saying late October (~20th) is the release date so I'm getting prepared. I'd just rather listen through my speakers or headphones than through the crappy speakers built into my TV.

Checking out Hammond cases... the 1455N1201 looked like it would work out pretty well.

Think that would be roomy enough? Trying to take into account the sides of the chassis where the board slots are.

Where do you gents usually procure your hammond cases from? I saw Digikey was out of this particular case.

I used a 10k Alps pot in the passive preamp that I built to go between my power amp and my CD player and it sounded great, so if you can't find a 20k pot then a 10k pot should work just fine.
