Hi there,

I've been in france for 2½ month now at the end of this month I'll be leaving Lyon for a final trip before going back home in Montreal. During this trip I'll by Dublin(3),Edinburgh(2),Inverness(3) back to Edinburgh(3),Prague(9),Marseille(3),Nice(5) and then back to Lyon(2) to take my flight back.
The numbers are for the days spent at each place.

What I'd like to know id if there's some things that I must see in these towns while I'm here. I'll be backpacking and sleeping in youth hostels so I need to avoid much the expensive things to be sure I'll have enough money until the end.

For the french towns I konw what to see and visit and for Prague i'll pretty much take it easy spending time reading and sunbathing and my question is more for the Ireland/Scotland part. I'd like to have any advices for Dublin,Edinburgh and Inverness and I tink some Head-fiers are from these places and could have some tips for me!

Thanks in advance!

I try to reduce my costs but I could consider going at Glasgow for a day arriving in the morning and leaving in the evening.

In Edinburgh, do the Royal mile, see the camera obscura, do a ghost tour (although this time if year it wont be as dark as it is best to be for them). Also visit the Royal and ancient museum of Edinburgh, which is now contiguous with the museum of scotland, also worth going round.

I'm not from Ireland, but I've visited. My advice is to first take one of the tour buses in Dublin to get a sense of the entire city and all the sites. You can get off at any site, walk around and then hop back on with the same ticket. It'll give you a good chance to get an overview of the city and decide where you want to spend your time and money on the subsequent days.

One other piece of advice on Ireland. If your schedule and budget allow, try to get out of Dublin. I really enjoyed the city and its history, but it's a large, modern European city - I think it might be the least "Irish" place in Ireland.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks for your advices! I already visited Venice, Geneva, Paris and Lyon(obviously) and for each of them I didn't plan much in advance.

For Venice it was a good thing, I loved to wander in the streets, for Geneva it was less fun since it's a big european city, same goes for Paris wich I visited the major attractions.

I had enough of big european cities and want to see more than that so that's why I came here.

Thanks again to everyone!

If that's the case, you might prefer Galway to Dublin if you can make the change in your intinerary. It's a better walking city, and from there you can more easily catch bus tours to the Burren, Cliffs of Mohr, Connemara, etc.

And if you can't, I'm sure you'll still have fun in Dublin!

The advantage about the cities I chose is Transports. I don't stay for long at each place and I don't want to spend all my time getting from a place to another.

My objective is to have a taste(even if it's really small) of everyday life where I go.

Anyway I should've discovered this forum sooner. By the time I find Head-Fi, my trip was already planned. Well, It's not much of a big deal. I still get the change to see great cities!

Taking the plane on Monday, here is the path I'll be taking in Ireland/Scotland:

Dublin(3 days)
Edinburgh(2 days)
North Berwick(1 day)
Inverness(2 days)
Edinburgh(1 day)
Stirling(1 day)

Then it's :
Prague(9 days)
Marseille(3 days)
Nice(5 days)
Lyon(2 days)

And then it's back to montreal after 3½ months in Europe.

Thanks for your advices, they were really useful and I plan to see some of the things you told!

Thanks again!
