As a father of two small children I find that I rarely get to even listen to my music unless its late at night after everyone is in bed. I was just wondering when other parents, or others in similar situations, listen to their headphones?
I usually listen to the phones when I am at work or at my computer room after everyone goes to the bed. When my son was an year old, I didn't get much headphone time at home. Now that he is four year old, I can afford to listen to headphones at home while he watches TV or plays video games.

The Tower of Power is built high for a reason. Even the dangling cables aren't low enough for the kiddie to grab and yank down yet, thank goodness. I just have to make certain that he doesn't climb onto my chair, then the desk, then the tower...usually I stop him by the "chair" stage thank goodness.

I am fortunate to get "quantity time" with my young children these days. Unfortunately, it means more like "quality time" then with the head-phones
. That usually means late evening sessions with the main system, indeed when everyone has gone to bed. I cannot say it is something I would complain about: I usually listen to orchestral music and voices and the late evening tranquillity is perfect.

Same here. Mostly at work. Sometimes at night after everyone is in bed.

I normally listen to cans when I sneak onto the computer. Other times I sit in my HT listening chair while my Wife watches TV quietly after the kids go to bed. She has the volume low and I listen on the portable, also with the vol low and it generally doesn't bother her.
.....actually with MS-1s, her TV bothers ME!!
(...and as all you guys who are married understand; it's far better for hubbie to be angered before bedtime, than the wife
Uhhhhmmmm, I havn't got to listen to my phones in over a month!!!
It doesn't help being ampless either.
So I get to 'hear' some music through $20 Labtec speakers that are hooked up to the computer (that is in our 8 month old sons room) for about 10 minutes a day. Weeeeeee!!!

At my desk at work and on the bus commuting. I do not even have a home setup, since I would not have a chance to listen to it.
1. At work
2. IN bed, after the wife is asleep. This is the best. Since I use closed cans, it doesn't bother her at all. She would NEVER let me be in another part of the house, but as long as I'm there with her in bed, once she's asleep, I get to listen for 30-60 minutes before bed. It's the perfect way to end the day.
At work I used headphones with good isolation (AKG K271S, Shure E4c and Beyer DT290). But I have to focus on work, so it's more for background.
Weeknights at home after kids are in bed, I listen to the main system in my home office. (Currently, MacBook Pro -> Bithead -> AKG K701 -- waiting for my Headfive and Zhaolu to arrive)
On weekends, if I can convince the 2 year old to have a siesta, I'll get some time then also.
But... with a 2 year old and 9 week old twins, it ain't easy. And that precious time has to be shared between reading, listening and biking.
It's definitely harder than when we didn't have kids.
However -- the 2 year old is showing some interest in my music, so I do get to listen to some stuff on the living room stereo when she and I are chilling out. It's very cool when you can share a hobby with your kids. (Collection is about 50GB AAC, 13000 tracks, slowly re-ripping to ALAC.)
