I am pairing up the Ety ER4P with the Nomad Jukebox3 as an ultimate (I think) Christmas present to myself. I have read good things about the Jukebox3 and with the 20gigs I can load it with wav or high bit rate MP3s. I am thinking that it might be nice to upgrade later by converting the ER4P to a 4S and coupling it with a headphone amp. So...please let me pose these specific questions:
Does using an amp with the Jukebox3 and ER4P (or ER4S for that matter) really make all that much difference in sound given the quality of the Jukebox3's output?
Do you actually need an amp to drive the ER4S from the JB3? If so, what amp do you recommend?
Given that the general concensus here is that the 4S has slightly better sound characteristics than the 4P, is it really as simple to convert the 4P to a 4S by buying a $5 Radio Shack audio cable and soldering a couple of 75 ohm resistors into it? Does it actually give the 4P the "exact" sound qualiies of the 4S?
Do I need a headphone amp when using the ER4P or 4S with my home system?
Of course, my wife knows nothing about the fact that I just spent $269 on "earbud" looking headphones, but I plan on letting her listen to them before breaking the news. Perhaps that will lessen the blow. Best case: she likes them so much that she insists that I buy her a pair, buy an amp, and do a complete upgrade to my home system as well! Worst case: she makes me return the ER4Ps. Perish the thought.
