What headphones do you use with your MD? as answered in my last thread int he portable audio forum, it stated that MD's are horribly quiet.

i know some of you own a MD, so what headphone do you use to make the best of it's "wimpy" output?

I own a MZR-909 and i use my MX-500's as well as my KSC-50's
The Koss's really suit this player , but the Senns are in my opinion a little more refined but loose out to the Koss's on comfort somewhat. I also have a pair of panasonic buds , i have no info on them , but they are also quite nice but the Senn's still crush them for quality. I have been eyeing off a pair of Senn HD-497's and i did have limited auditioning to them out of the headphone jack of the my MZR-909 and they do quite well for themselves.

I own a Sony MZE75 and drives my Sony MDR 7506's to very loud levels, same with my Grado 60 and 80's...but not necessarily the 100's. Portapro's and denon ahd 350's are also driven very loud.

I use EX70SL (unmodded) with my Sony MZ-N1. I usually keep it at volume 20 / 30. But I must say that MD portables DO have wimpy outputs most of the time.

My MZ-R55 had difficulty driving my earbuds back then, my MZ-R900 had a hard time with MDR-268s and now the N1 seems to like these EX70s.

So there.

Regards,

I use modded EX70s and MDR-D22 eggos. Cheapy phones yes, but ER6 have a cord that is far to long :| **come on short cord Ety's**

With recording at probably -4 to -2dB, I set the volume to about 15/16 of 30 on my E900, and 18/19 of 30 with my R37.

I use the ER-4S, Sony 888 and, if I like them, the AT-EM7s (which will be arriving next week). I dislike the KSC-35 and never use them. I have a pair of EX70s but never use them, either.

I tend not to use full-on headphones in transit but might try my Beyerdynamic 831 with a META whilst traipsing about hooded in the snow. You can't believe how comfortable those silver pads can be.

My minidisc recorder collection consists of the Sony MZN1 and Sharp mt-770 and mt-831. I do like the new Sharp 1-bit-amped MD recorder, but after listening to LAME-encoded versions of Arovane/Vlad Delay remixes of Pub's "Summer" am thinking about picking up the iPod instead. LAME really does sound amazing.

The Sharp output does seem slightly better than the Sony. And I've never had a problem driving the 4S with portable equipment.

Instead of EX-60, E-888, MX-500, I perfer VX-100 as well. I only owned VX-100. It sound's good, but could't compare to V6(7056). However, I could't drive my V6 in an MDP to a loudness level which my PCDP did (I use 25/30 all the time. When I turn the volume all the way up, the sound will start to lose control). In VX-100, I usually turned it to 10-15. Then it would perfectly block the noise around me. If the place was too loud, I could easily turn up the volume, and I still had 15 mor volume to change.

I've tried the following with my Sharp MD.
Audio-Technica ATH-A100Ti, ATH-A900, Beyer DT250-80, Sennheiser HD280 Pro, HD25, Sony MDR-7506, MDR-7509, MDR-EX70, MDR-V700DJ, MDR-D22SL, MDR-D66SL, Technics RP-DJ1210.
My favourite so far overall is the Sony MDR-7506. The best sounding is the ATH-A900 (but not very practical) I think.

I have a NetMD (Blue) that I use either Etys ER-4ps or Senn HD600. It has no problem driving either one. Hate the fact it has only one battery though...

i have tried the sony v6, cd1700, sennheiser mx400, ety er6, sony e888, sony e848, sony d66 eggo, and out of the headphone jack of my sony mxr70, nothing comes close to the d66 eggos.

i agree with redshifter here. the d66 will be your best choice for your md if you want portable headphones sans amp. and wouldn't want to walk around with large cans. some people here considered these cans to have better sound presentation than the v6 out of an md portable.

others:
Senn PX200
MX500 (if you want buds)
ER-4P would be your ultimate sonic reproduction (if you can swing your wallet and would welcome total isolation).

happy shopping.

it's a priest. that's a confessional booth behind him. if nobody would come to confession, confession would come to them.

note: my intentions are not in any way to offend catholic members here. i just see society in that simple picture.
