I've spent a lot of time lately listening to the Pico vs my big rig (see my sig) so that I can add to the knowledge base here.

After all the listening to various old and not so old albums, I've just spent maybe 90 minutes with Dire Strait"s, Sultans of Swing, I've come away impressed with... my headphones...

My conclusion: My god, the Edition 9's delivered no matter what I threw at them.

Rock, jazz, classical, regardless of recording, they made me wish for more.

I started the last week or so, examining DAC's and amps. Yet I've ended up marveling at the E9's. They've delivered no matter the material.

I've heard most of the legendary headphones from L3000's to K1000's, (sorry no R10's or HE90's) and guess what, I'm willing to say that E9's, after they're discontinued, will be considered in, not just the top tier, but the absolute creme de la creme.

I've had them since the end of August '07, so this isn't FOTM or "these are mine, and you can't pry them from my cold, dead, fingers".

I've listened to these with bad (read old "Beatles"), to the best (read "Cream: Reunion-DVD"). And they simply deliver. Whether, I'm stone straight, or 10 bottles into King's Lager (direct from the New River in Australia), or after: never mind, let's not go there :xf_cool:!

Just one man's opinion, but dammit, a hard earned and worthy one!

BTW, this post is for the record. 10 years from now, I want to be able to say I told you so!

Congrats on finding your nirvana, p-man!

What amp are you loving with them the most? Are yours balanced?

At the moment, not balanced. Thrice has the Beta for some tuning.

I've been listening through the Pico and the Ear+HD. But I'm convinced the source is the key part of the chain, outside of the headphones, of course.

The SACDMods, just sound BIG, compared to any other source I've used. More real, with that live room, almost echoey, sound. Though I give the E9's Slogic a lot of credit for that feeling, too.

Great post, Pageman! I also have been enjoying an extended honeymoon with my Ed 9s, most recently with my MAD HD200 amp. They continue to be my favourite phones, completely addictive, with a blend of power and finesse to rival a great loudspeaker. I've just taken them off after listening to George Benson's version of "Summertime," and I can't imagine anything more satisfying in the world of HPs, for me anyway. Wonderful phones indeed.

best,

o

Yeah, though originally a skeptic when it came to Slogic, I've begun to think they capture "reality" in a better way than direct sound into the ear headphones.

Let's try not to turn this thread into a Ultrasone "family" thread. I'd like to see some non-owners ask questions or contribute to the Ultrasone threads.

Great post, Page. I’m a diehard ED9 fan myself. They seem to be a very polarizing phone around here; either you love ‘em or you hate ‘em. I’m definitely in the former camp. They do everything I ask of them (and a lot more), and complement my R10s perfectly. Honestly, on rock & roll, I go with the ED9s almost every time. They absolutely (pun intended) rock with that genre—and most everything else, too.

Like you, I’ve heard most of the “classics” (R10, Qualia, HE90, L3000, PS-1, etc.), and IMO the ED9s will one day be considered right up there with some of the big boys. It’s that good. In fact, I recently compared it to a friend’s L3000s, and the A-T didn’t fare all that well in the comparo. My friend is now looking to sell his 3000s.

My UE9s have 200 hours and sound very good. Rudistor RPX-33 is in the UPS truck and will be delivered today. I'm hoping the synergy will give the MPX3-SE Slam a run for top combo.

Still loving the Edition 9s here too.

I've gone through a ton of headphones and enjoy buying/selling/trading to try out new stuff but that's slowed down quite a bit since the Edition 9s got here.

I'm still waiting on my GS-X from Justin so I haven't had them balanced yet but have been enjoying them with a GS-1 while I wait.

For me they are pretty much what I've been looking for especially since they're closed which is a must for me right now. I haven't had the chance to listen to R10s or L3000s but with the Ed. 9s I also don't have that constant nagging feeling to look for anything else. YMMV.

how long does it take to adapt to that horribly isolating, closed-off feeling that you get when you first try on the Ed.9.

This thread is bad. Now I'm considering a $1500 purchase. Where is a good place to buy them? Will the ED9 match well with my system, my amp is the RSA Raptor and my source is the Rega Saturn? I listen mainly to classis rock, blues, pop and jazz. I currently have the K701, CD3000, K340 and K501. In order to convince my wife that I'm not crazy, I'll probably have to sell atleast 3 of them, if not all, to make that that purchase. Anyone in the Detroit area own a pair and would be willing to get together? I need to take a close listen before committing that kind of cash.

I'll take your CD3000 :-D

jk.

Knowing warmer/brighter tonality of Regas, this should match well. I would not quote Raptor to be the best amp for the job, but it definitely work.
