So what do you think would suit the HD-555's (50 ohms) better, the PA2V2 or the Little Dot Micro+? It will be run out of the headphone port on my Ipod. I mostly listen to rock and alternative. If you think neither will work, I would love some suggestions (no, I cannot build my own and I would like to keep it under $100).

Thanks so much!!

Neither. The HD5#5 series won't show much improvement with entry level amps. However, the PA2V2's more convenient and probably better than the LD Micro if you want to get other headphones in the future.

Would they make a difference for the HD595?

I have the 595, which is a higher end model of the 555. My amp is a Gilmore Lite, which I suppose is a mid-level amp. It does make the sound much smoother, but may not be an optimal combination. I've read that 595's are best matched with warm sounding amps. A millet hybrid usually runs for less than a couple hundred in the F/S Amp forum, and would probably be the best match for the 5#5 series at a relatively low price.

... sorry about your wallet

Actually, the oft criticized Simpl A1 manages to sound decent with the HD 555, and this amp was designed to be run out of the headphone port on your iPod! The HD 555 is pictured both in the simpl A1 user's guide and on the front page of the Simpl website:
