I'm sure this has been asked (and I looked), but I see what looks like the Oyaide C-046 IEC connector on ebay for ~$12. each.  I also see them sold at an online retailer for over $100.  My (obvious) question is are the HK ones fakes or is the retailer sticking it to the 'audiophiles'?

Thanks ahead of time!!!

Def. Fake
The cheapest IECs i have found here in HK that are in that style are Wattgates and they cost around 200HKD which is about 25USD
My Oyaide Rhodium plated IEC was like 700HKD ~90USD and its real, comes in a cylindrical tin.

Ahh... thank you.  Yeah- I just started looking into this stuff, so I had no idea what I should expect to pay.  And I know Oyaide is a brand name.  But I wasn't sure if it was a situation like how some audio shops try to sell you Blu-Tack for several times more than what you can get it for at a regular hardware store.  To be honest, I'm not looking for the stated benefits of the connector.  I just want to make custom length cables so I can clean up my system a little bit.  I realize that the ebay ones don't use the same materials and probably aren't even UL listed.  So I might be taking a chance.  Maybe I'll order one and see if they're okay.

The eBay items are clearly fake. We are the US importers for Oyaide and can tell you without any doubt that what you are looking at is junk. Oyaide couldn't even make their part for that amount let alone sell it to a retailer who could then make a profit at that price. You get what you pay for. Oyaide Plugs and receptacles are all UL approved and are made from the highest grade materials using the finest Japanese craftsmanship. The eBay items could not begin to hold a candle to the real thing.

Thanks!  I'll probably pass, especially since I can't see how they look in real life.  I've seen fakes that, while they looked okay in photos, were total junk in real life.  And while I don't mind owning cheap or low cost items, I don't like having fake or counterfeit things.
