Ownership Playoff - Sony CD780 vs. Sony CD580

How many of you own the CD780? How many of you own the CD580? Well let it be known which is more popular amongst Head-Fi members, the CD780 or the CD580...

I have CD780s (RBISHE YO!) but I hardly ever listen to them anymore. Actually I'm planning on giving them to a friend for her birthday. She's used to, uhh, stock earbuds, I think, so this will be a big step up...

On a side note, does anyone here know where to get the CD780s at a good price? A seller on ebay has a pair going for $82 each (iirc) shipped at the moment. I'm guessing that $82 is still very reasonable, albeit there's only warranty coming from seller and not Sony.

That is the best price I have seen for the NIB shipped recently.

Now, why would you want to go and get the 780s when you can get the XD400s (which outperforms my poor old 580s any day of the week!!)?

Because I already have the XD400 (as well as the three other XD series phones from Sony). I got them three days ago and I needed a new phone, so I got the CD780 & CD580.

I tried on a coworker's broken-in Senn HD570s today, and gosh they were comfortable. Velvetty cotton-filled pillow pads they were. Definitely way more comfortable than the velour of my Beyer DT250s.

Just reading this thread makes me want to buy the 780s. My ears could use some pampering after my daily pain of breakin in e2cs.

So, which sounds better, the 780 or the 400? The 580s to me doesn't compare that well to the 400s, and the 580s used to be one of my favorites. I look forward to your comparisons.

I've got the CD580s and am an original CD780 rbish yo er.

FWIW, I gave the XD400s a week-long audition, but prefered the CD580s and CD780s. A matter of personal taste I suppose. The CD580s and CD780s just float my boat. I love them both.
