Looking into them a bit there was a review that said they seemed to mold around your ears.
that center hole sure is small too so should be a nice bass effect :p

On a damping note I ordered a 6in x 6in x 1in thick section of
CeraChem 2600° F ceramic wool from California .
Just enough to see what it does for damping schemes.
Always wanted to try that out so I grabbed the smallest reasonable size for the cheapest.

ohh wow it is heavvvvy! :0
8 # Density - Density: 8lbs. / Cubic Foot !!!! uh oh ( mass loading and damping all in one haha )

Also I just noticed after buying it, it says "Superior Acoustic Characteristics" in the auction listing.
If it works half decent maybe better for some acoustic wall panels than the rockwool slabs.

If I keep putting that test off it'll never get tried so no time like the present I guess.
If this stuff turns out too heavy I can always see how well it separates into layers...

and it seems the usual safety caveat :
Best to wear protective gloves when handling Thermal Ceramics Cerachem Fiber Blanket
or any Fiber insulation or Refractory Wool as they are highly spun refractory fibers

Those super memfoam ones do come in the Yamaha sizes too. I'm curious to see how those will be when you get them!

The David Clark things though, they ARE "DuraStitched" sooo guessing they will last.
:)

Too bad our ears aren't duragrown, or I'd be rocking out at much higher volumes.

Anyone know of any other oval-shaped pads apart from the Brainwavz HM5 series of pads and the Shure SRH840 ones? Want to try different ones on my YH-OB-1 cans.

There's a lot of users with audio technica m50s that are looking for pads, generally you can expect someone to ask "does this fit an m50x" in the comments. That's a good way to guestimate whether or not the pads will fit for you.

Anyone have any idea as to how to remove the driver/baffle from the rest of the Yamaha HP-3 housing? I've pulled off the pads and found all the clips, but even after pushing all the clips in, it doesn't seem to budge.

Shure SRH1540 pads are oval shaped.
If you get a regular circle one that is between the tall and the wide measurements of your cups they can oftentimes be turned into ovals when installing...

There are these nice looking ones with all sorts of variations, but I forget about M50 measurements.
